FS: ART 4.2L 40V V8 short block + xtras LOW MILES CLEAN!!! lowering the price to $450
Anyone in need of an ART 4.2L 40V V8bottom end? I bought this long block awhile back intending on building it up. Now the block sits here along with about 5 boxes of brackets, manifolds and accessories. Unfortunately I no longer have the heads and without the heads there really is no future project for me with this motor (at least not now). This motor looks brand new...it was thought to be pulled from a low mileage wrecked car about 6 years ago. It has been well kept in plastic and indoors. If anyone is seriously interested in the bottom end or any other engine parts I can open everything up and take pictures...just let me know.
I am located in southern California but the block really isn't that heavy...I would be willing to put it on a pallet and ship it out.
OK here are some pics...sorry but my camera has no macro feature and does not focus very well. Even then it is obvious that this is a very low mileage motor 8) It was said to be pulled from a totalled car with around 20K...from the looks of everything I would say that that is accurate
Here is the bottom end as it has sat in plastic
some carbon build up...but nothing out of the ordinary
no signs of any scoring whatsoever
Clean from front to back!
Lots of extras to go with it...
I have all or at least 98% of the valve train parts...the only thing missing may be a few valves. The cams have surface rust but the rocker shafts are well kept along with the rockers. I kept every single bolt, tube, hose, and gasket from this motor...most of the bolts are labelled in plastic bags.
$600 takes all...I would prefer to sell everything together. Also Local SoCal pick-up prefered however not 100% required...this could easily be strapped down to a pallet and sent on a truck to one lucky recipient
Is that discoloration visible toward the rear of the crankshaft caused by hardening done to the journals? I haven't seen that before, but maybe that's because that motor is still so new it's more easily seen.
Yes it is discoloration due to heat build-up at each rod journal. You cannot see all of the rod journals from the same angle in the picture but each one has an equal amount of discoloring. I have seen this before quite a few times on high reving motors but I am not 100% certain how normal it is in this case...but my guess is that it is inherent due to the configuration of the rods sharing a journal, the shape of the crank beyond the journal (it's quite thin with no where for the heat to go except into the oil) and not to mention this motor likes to rev :-D Certainly this is one of the cleanest engines I have ever opened up...usually everything has been discolored from years of build-up. But nevertheless...cetainly cause for concern. If any serious buyers would like me to pop the caps off and take a look I am more than willing.
Oh yeah if anyone with real engine building experience can chime in and shed light...please do!
Also I should mention that there was not a spec of bearing debris or visible particles, flakes or "dust" in the oil, oil pump, pan etc. It also turned over freely by hand.
I will take it all. I live in Jacksonville, Florida so I'll need to get it shipped here. Once we figure out how much shipping will be we can sort out how you would like payment to be made.
