I was really interested in seeing the A4 with the turbo VR6.
I was wondering what would be required to do a VR6 swap into a 93 Audi 90 quattro 2.8 12V V6?
I would assume it would be... difficult... to say the least
aside from INA/034, has anyone done them as a daily driver?
I see the transmission/starter adaptors on the site. What about motor mounts and engine management?
Is it possible to use the 2.8L 12V engine management to run the VR6?
Other than the fact that the wiring harness would put parts in the wrong places, and the motors would likely have stuff programmed to not work 100%, I think it would work. This doesn't take into account whether one setup expects there to be a distributor or not though.
With some tweaking of the wiring harness and programming of the computer, I think it would run...but by the time you figure that crap out, you're much better off using a IIc.
no, the 12v v6 sensor package will not work with the VR6. primarily is the crank trigger assembly. the 12v uses the common audi 3 sensor crank /cam/tdc sensor assembly to determine the engine rpm and crank angle.
the vr6 uses a 60-2 wheel to locate its crank angle and rpm info.
other then that, the 12v has an egr package, aswell as the manifold changeover control and does not utilize a distributor based ignition system.
the vr6 as none of those features AFAIK.
you'd be better off snaggling an entire vr6 car and getting the package from that car to do the swap.
but my question to you is this.... why would you go VR6 and stay normally aspirated?( by using the factory 12v engine managment if you could)
you would be far better off turboing the vr6, in imho the vr6 and audi 12v v6 are fairly comparable in the stock normally aspirated format. so it would be alot of work for near zero improvement.
for the wiring just use the vr6 aaa motors harness and computer. much easier and has a lot more option for upgrades, chip, cams, mild turbo/supercharging ect....
definately worth doing and is easy to wire up
Well, speaking normally aspirated, I like the idea of a normally aspirated 3.0L 12V VR6
or, if I ever won the lottery, a 24V 3.2L VR6 on throttle bodies
dont forget, the audi 90 is not a jetta or GTI chassis.... it has more heft to it and a bit more rolling friction.
i guess what im saying, is if i was to go through all that expense and work, id rather have some real numbers to back it up. IE serious torque and hp from a turbo machine.
Turbo is always an option though, I mean it's not like it can't be turboed after it's in. Might be less work to do it before hand though!
Hey if you need a VR6 I have a coil pack version from a '94 passat w/104k miles on it, with ecu & wiring harness for sale, I'm not too far from you either up in NH :-D . Can deliver too.
