ive found an 01e for sale that is listed as a 6 speed coming from a 2.5 tdi quattro. The price seems pretty low and he says its a reman unit from a friend (that part sounds "scammy"). It looks brand new in the pictures. The part number is 01e301103 with a trans code of CXU1098/2. Ive searched and from what I can find its from a a6? Any one have any info on this 01e? im interested in gear ratios and final drive. its a six speed?

If it is from a 2.5L TDI then it should be
3.50 1.89 1.32 0.87 0.67 0.56

But I cant find anything related to that CXU code
01E 300 044 A with DPJ/DQT are known 2.5 TDI codes.

doesn't mean that isn't one, just its not the common part number. Who knows what market it came from.

The A6q did come with a 2.5TDI in Europe, so story seems plausible.
Not 100% sure if those ratios are exactly right for that transmission, but should be close.

CXU is a 5-speed 01E from the 1995-1997 C4 A6 with the AEL 2.5 TDI.

Ratios are:

Final drive 3.875
1st 3.500
2nd 1.889
3rd 1.165
4th 0.813
5th 0.600

Edited for typo on 5th :)

Thank you! The 3.875 final drive seems to make it a little useless?

Not at all. That's one of the "taller" Audi final drive ratios, and a 0.50 5th is terrific.

I was thinking more in finding a rear diff to match. Maybe just my ignorance but it seems 4:11 and 3:89 are the most common for the small chassis cars. What other cars came with that final drive?

Just looking at the ratios on OEMEPC, the 5 gear on that box is 0.60. I didn't look at the others gears. Also, the ratio is 3.875 as noted, but the ratio of a "3.89" box is really 3.88888. The difference between 3.875 and 3.888 is only 0.3% difference. It has a center diff. I'd run it.

Thanks for the link. It doesn't look like a Quattro box though. In fact, OEMEPC was kind of inferring that too, but I have no experience with it, so I can't say. Would need a shot of the back to able to tell for sure. Either way, I'm sure it would be a good strong box with great ratios. And yes, it does look rather new.

Yeah I thought the same thing. Would be sweet for a mid engine project car. Looks to have the wide first? He called me yesterday, sounded honest and motivated to move it. He really doesn't know what it is.
