Looking for input.

Ive been mostly driving my 2.7t a6 for the daily stuff, its been pretty solid since the tranny swap.

The 86 5k 2.2t has been sitting, asking me to do something with it. Ran into some fuel line problems, ect, but getting the urge to do something different with it. Its january again, so its time to put something in the shed and tear into it.

I am not a fan of CIS (go figure), and I think the engine needs a little love (light tear down/rebuild sort of stuff, lots of rubber is aging, wiring is a bit brittle in spots)

So, should try to go for something like a tear down and rebuild with something like megasquirt or VEMS?

-or- engine swap...?
4.2?
1.8?
2.2 20 valve?
vr6?
w8?

I need inspiration. Its cold, dark and winter up here and I need something to focus on.

VEMS with new fuel injection, ignition setup, and a wideband would make the car more enjoyable I would think. Definitely the easiest way to drive the car again and get rid of that aging CIS

I'm running MS3X on my MC1. The choice between MS and VEMS depend on how involved you want to be in the ECU. If you want to keep the dizzy for ignition you can build yourself a cheap MS2 setup, and learn to tune that way. VEMS will be a simpler choice if you just want to run the harness and start tuning.

If the main goal is EFI, there is a lesser-traveled 3rd option. Leave the engine where it is and source a 3B ECU, harness, and 10v fuel rail kit. You'll have a reliable, stock-like experience. Tuning would be limited to chips or someone who knows Motronic, though.

That is a most interesting idea though. Much like in the Saab land when people started using trionic5 on old c900s.

Good idea there.

Any good suggestions on what to do with the damn brake booster on this thing?

Set it on fire? Is it to bad to swap it over to a normal non-nitrogen brakes?

same here need the motivation i have two CQ sitting in the house. but I have been debating the same thing too and I settle for a a 07K engine with VEMS and HX35. fearly new engine and you can get rid of the aging harness.

The brakes can be swapped to a conventional vacuum booster setup with Audi parts. I wrote a quick how-to guide when I converted my 200TQA to vacuum boost: http://forums.quattroworld.com/v8/msgs/12428.phtml
