Thinking of doing the motor for my SQ project a tad different. I have both an AAN and a 7A to pick from, but was thinking of doing a bitchin high RPM NA ITB'd 20v. Obviously headwork and higher compression would be in order, probably a bag o snakes manifold for the out side of things or custom. Curious what kind of power could be expected. I know even with a lot of porting these heads aren't stellar flow monsters. So on the other hand an 07K may be better, not only for displacement but for a better flowing head. I was leaning towards 07K anyways when thinking of turbo too. any thoughts or links on the topic? starting to get serious about my SQ project again. I now have the bits to do the Quattro conversion.

Peter Antonic did it, it sounded cool. You'll never get good HP out of an NA 20v.

I'm currently gathering the bits to build a 2.0L 20vt with ITBs for my Quantum Syncro Wagon.

You can either build the ITBs using Jenvey single throttle bodies which are expensive, but nice or you can go the bike throttle body route like I did. I built a 42mm ITB set up for less than $100 and I'm working on casting an adapter manifold to mate them to my AAN head that I'm plopping on an NM/PS bottom end. There is another company that makes an actual bolt on ITB set up for the 20v Audi heads. It's a super high quality piece, but obviously with a super high quality price tag..

I originally come from the 16v world and a carefully massaged 16v can make 200whp if the right combination of parts and work are put together. Much more than that becomes hard without taking every single factor into account and spending a crap ton more money. I see no reason why you couldn't achieve 200whp with an old NA 20v 5 cylinder with awd, maybe more.. Who knows, but it would certainly be very costly.. But if you go 07K and you're not worried about budget I'm sure you could achieve quite a bit more than that NA.

Here's a video from Integrated Engineering of an 07K that they built that turns 9400rpm and makes 280hp and nearly 200ft.lbs. of torque.. On pump gas. If you put ITBs on it you could achieve more power and with higher compression and the right fuel even more. Granted it's not like you're going to get gobs more, but you'll get more.

There is nothing like driving a high revving NA car with ITBs. I prefer the driving experience of cars with engines like that over turbocharged cars. But if I was after power and knew I couldn't make it NA then I would go to either the AAN/7A or 07K with a turbo because at some point the you'll start to dump hundreds or thousands of dollars just to extract a few horsepower with an NA engine.

or you can make 280hp on a chipped 3b or AAN for $1000. I cant imagine an anemic NA engine in a car as epic as this.

Its your car, do as you please, but i couldn't see myself doing all the work to build my shorty sport quattro and then have a ~200hp engine in it. That's just me. you're more than welcome to do it, keep in mind it will probably cost you similiar money to build a high hp NA build, than it will to build a 500awhp turbo engine.

Is the OP not asking about ITB's with a turbo or is that typo in the tittle? Here is Petar's NA build viewtopic.php?t=15546

Just flirting with the idea is all, I love the feel of NA power but I don't think it will make enough to warrant the work and headaches and dollars....will probably 07k turbo, gotta build this body tho first.

Yep.. I mean for the horsepower per dollar spent is not there with an NA engine, but you get a cool factor.. But it's in a car that's been made into a Sport Quattro.. So it makes perfect sense to built a turbo charged engine..

ITB + Turbo AAN/7A or 07K would be awesome in this car.

Just don't do ITBs and a turbo. Extra complex/expensive with no benefit.
