I just picked up this wagon last weekend. High miles and mostly original, came with a window sticker even.

It's been off the road for a couple years now and needs freshening up. Put in a starter to get it home and I think I've evicted the mice already, but the instrument panel definitely needs to come out for inspection and re-soldering. I've owned a modified high-miles '87 5000CS Quattro wagon previously, so this is a bit familiar -- but I might like the 20v engine better.

What more-supportive will fit in this car? The stock ones kill my back (blue comfort leather) and I know the more sporty seats from 90s and S-line cars should suit me better.

UrS4 Recaro seat will fit, just a little wiring for the harness, but its not a big deal. The optional 200 20v sport seats, which are a direct bolt in. Those are basicly your only two options aside from going custom.

So the seats from a same-year 90 20v won't fit? I would like to keep the seat heater but it isn't necessary. I haven't had luck locating either the 200 20v sport seats or later Ur-S4 seats in blue... redying lighter seats might be an option I suppose.

I miss my old Saab seats that's for sure!

re: the engine -- my 10v was chipped with WG spring and a nice all-aluminum intercooler. This feels about as fast already, and I'm not sure it's all there. I'm not as excited about going fast as I used to be though -- would like to get better mileage...

your going to have a real hard time locating 200 20v blue sport seats. The 90 20v seats have a different track/mount. I do not believe the Recaro's ever came in blue.

My suggestion would to replace all of the seats with black ones. The two tone black/blue combo would look good. Black is the easiest color seats to find for either of these two seat (recaros/200 20v sport).

I would rather go with lighter seats if any change, that blue is dark enough to clash with black.

The Audi V8 interior bits strike me as likely compatible, is that the case?

Speaking of wiring...

The instrument cluster seemed to be messed up. Uneven lighting, some missing bulbs and an apparently dead trip computer/warning display. Dead water temp gauge too. I pulled the panel out, got it apart and found this so far:

Looks like that resistor blew up.

I can't really tell from the colored stripes what to replace it with -- or should I bother?

Hey, I have an instrument cluster with no charring. The PO raided it for light bulbs (:bashtard:) but it appears to be good otherwise. Want to buy it?

If you know it was fully functional, yes. I can deal with buying a few bulbs and throwing them in.

This should help:

Let me know what bulbs you need. I have a load of them.

Been to that site -- was using it for the instrument cluster teardown and expected to see the sort of ground/power trace breaks detailed there. But this struck me first as another and more obvious problem!

I've now fixed the ground and power traces that are normally broken in the cluster, but still no luck identifying the blown component shown above. Anyone got a schematic or a good photo of the same area?
