Where do you guys buy your engines from for your projects? Do you buy a running parts car or buy your used engine from a site like this?

I've done both. depending on the scope of project, and availability of cars near me.

Both, I sourced my 1.8T swap for my rabbit from car-part.com with enough calls, you can find pretty damn good deals, especially if you buy it all at once, Even sent a video of the car driving before the engine and everything showed up on the pallet. Complete parts car is a great way to go, as you know its a driver and everything works before you pull it. and you can part out the car to offset some or all of the cost of the car itself.

My 10vt came from enthusiast friends. Car was bought running then parted out. Lots of ways to get a good one.

Thanks for the info guys. Curious if I can't find a engine from a running parts car, can a leak down test with a engine that's already pulled from a car?
