Anyone know if the rear cv axles are the same in the 4000 as CQ? I know the diff will interchange and inner cv diameter is same but outer? Got a donor 4K (fell into my lap) I wish like hell it wasn't but body is trashed so parting it out. It's low miles so harvesting the drivetrain and it's all even tighter than the newer stuff I swapped in already. If the axles will fit I'll swap em

Wait.. I am confused. are you talking about 4kq or 4k? 4k is fwd!

Oh jeez, my bad! of course 4kQ! im sure the outer cv may be different due to the ABS ring, curious about length and spline count? I know the subframe and diff etc will swap.

Still round lol. Honestly just enjoying the car for the time being, ive been working on it since I got it, so I decided to just drive it for a bit, now that its sorted fairly well. Have some parts ready to go in, new rear struts, and top mounts, I replaced all 4 top mounts 500 miles ago and 1 front and 1 rear are thumping already, esp the front... so my friend who is a machinist, is designing and making us some billet top mounts. I already have all new wheel bearings, machined urs4 hubs and rear brakes. I just need b5 a4 rear hubs to convert to 5x112. and still waiting on extra money to build the engine up.

Dont worry we are all in the same boat. these top mounts are bad design from beginning anyway. Count me in on the new top mounts when done. that can save me a headache. Now, who did your hubs machining? I have mine but i am scared the local machine shop fucks it up by me giving him the wrong infos. what brake setup are you going with?

Im rebuilding the motor now. My chassis has 220K on it so I wanted to tighten everything back up. I do want to drop a set of KW v1 in but that's down the road. My buddy who machined the hub and making the top mounts. he took off the 5mm off the hubs. He may not be willing to make more top mounts. I don't do things by halves, when I do the swap, ill do a mild shave of the bay, and wire tuck. I will have the engine brackets intake valve cover etc all powdercoated. I hate clutter, I like it tidy and clean. Makes it easier to work on as well. My mk1 GTI is a testament of that.... A lot of the work ive done so far has been a bit "rushed" as ive been chasing drivetrain lash trying to cure it. Everything will be pulled apart and powdercoated and cleaned and painted etc.
