ok so I decided to pull one of my coupes out of the mouth balls because my daughter's a4 broke down, bad low pressure fuel pump. Driving the coupe around first day with a/c on and the belt started squealing at takeoff from lights. I recall having this problem ( throwing belts) a while back and just lost ambition to address it, I'm running a 15345 belt which is what all the parts stores are selling me. The voltage regulator was replaced by previous owner, I'm wondering if it is the wrong belt, alternator, pulley, etc. It looks like it's running straight but the belts seem to sit low in the pulley when I install them and maybe a little long. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, my wife and daughter would like to drive it,especially my daughter I'm just happy she likes Audi's but I need to fix this problem. I know enough to turn off the a/c before takeoff but they won't think of it plus I have hids that seem to suck some juice.

The belt sitting too deep in the pulley could be causing the belt to loosen up and get thrown. The correct belt is pn# 054903137 size is 11.2x866mm ContiTech 112X866 You could also try a dayco top cog belt. 15345 would be the correct belt too but according to dayco's website it is a little longer 875 vs. 866 shouldn't really be a probably I have the top cog on my 90 it does kinda of max out the tensioner IIRC.

Ok, I'm running the 15345 already not the dayco top cog but I did run across those in my searching tonight are those a better belt? I actually grabbed an 86 4000cs quattro belt out of my parts 15335 it's an inch shorter I'm going to giver a shot.

One time I kept burning through belts, turns out the last tech to wrench on my car put the washer on the wrong side of the alternator pulley. This offset the pulleys enough that it looked straight, but was throwing belts.

A simple fix, but it took forever to find.

hope this helps.

use a big straight edge off the crank pulley to ensure everything is in the same plane...

Thank you guys for the input, I used a straight edge off the crank pulley and it is in line. I did not see any washers so I installed the 4000cs quattro belt that's an inch shorter, so far good but I only took it for a quick ride tunic time will tell.

Also check for crank walk when stepping on the clutch.
