First step remove the shift boot need to remove the tunnel side covers, the boot is held down with two 8mm bolts. Don't want to break the plastic tangs that hold the boot down!!!!!!! Also if you have not ordered the actual bushing at the transmission I would. http://web.archive.org/web/200707101823 ... tions.html says machine is down ATM http://web.archive.org/web/200703030459 ... cts_id=336
So here you go http://members.shaw.ca/jonnydk/car/short_shifter.html
You don't have to remove the console but it might make things easier the main thing is undoing the crimps holding the large washer that secures the ball in the socket. Not shown above otherwise you'll be trying to force the thing in place not good and can bend the shaft.
Also might want to trim out the cross support to maximize the throw reduction.
I know this is an old post, but how do you like the new shifter? Is it notchy or does it shift pretty smoothly? I'm still rowing the stock shifter in my 200.
I passed on swapping it into my 200 from the 5k simply because they both have the same amount of throw so I don't think the 200 would benefit without serious modification. Very nice feel in 5k tho
I have the same 034 one in the 4KQ and I love it. I stumbled across it while messing with My 5KTQ shifter boot, never knew it was there until then. The shifter surround bracket on the 5KTQ interfered with it so it was never at the max setting. Anyway I migrated it over to My 4KQ this past spring and at the same time drilled and tapped an eight-ball very deep intentionally to use as a poor man's weighted shift knob. I did that in mind to lower the shifter knob even further, the top of the shifter shaft is around a 1/4" of an inch below the top of the eight-ball....very ghetto, very effective and stupidly comfortable on the right hand. Eventually I'll do the same on My 200 as well. Sorry getting back to the original question at the max. setting (where it always is) it truely is like night and day, wicked quick smooth shifts although it is sort of wasted on the NA engine but still super fun nevertheless, I couldn't see not using one ever again even...worth every penny and only took a hour with no instructions.
