i am trying to fix up the exterior of my car and i went to Wesco looking for a gallon of Mars Red paint. The guy quoted me $695 for one gallon. Now maybe i am just ignorant of automotive paint supplies, but this seems wayyyyyy too much. Anyone have any knowledge of this or a place they can recommend to find car paint?

thanks

*edit* - a quick google search also does not support this outlandish quote for 1 gallon

That was probably just the base coat right? Clear will probably cost you the same for a valspar or equivalent. Are we allowed to drop brand names here? oh, well southern polyurethane sells clear that gets wicked reviews and is available for a lot less. Unfortunately, they don't sell BB, at least not custom colours anyway; you might be able to get black. I was going to but from them, but I live in canada and importing chems is not something I didn't want to try. BB in your colour will cost at least 300/gallon for cheap stuff.

Yep. Last fall I paid $235 for a half gallon of Tornado Red. Paint was good quality though. Red is most expensive solid before the metallics.

Easily!

A qt of ppg, DuPont, spies-hecker from base (light) colors are like $100-130
while blue, red, burgundy more expensive $140-160
Btw the clear coat on my car was $800 alone.

Of course you can buy rust-oleum for $65/gallon

Ya- the Dupont I bought (qt) to match (Volcano) was $135. They Told me that red was $700 per gallon.

Obviously you want a better paint for an urq, but Summit Racing paint kit FTW
