Now that I have two engines spread out around my garage, I need to clean the parts. What's everyone's favourite? Normally I use "Dunk", but man that stuff is nasty smelling.

I'm fresh out, so I might as well buy some good stuff this time.

Hmmm, they're building the Home Depot in Squamish right now...but I hope to have the engine finished before they are!

Gotta find something at Canadian Tire or UAP/NAPA. Will look for Zep products though...

I used the stuff to clean some grime off of some plastic - didn't read the warning - took a bunch of skin off of my bare hands and feet and burned like crazy. I highly suggest wearing gloves.

The POR-15 degreaser works well IMO. Maybe the best I've ever used, afaik POR-15 products aren't available in stores though :x . I used it outside but I didn't notice a strong smell like mostr solvents have. Could have just been making me all high n' shet though :p .

Big Rig- industrial locomotive cleaner. It will clean just about anything. Dont leave it sitting on concrete to long...it will eat it away.

Right-o! Forgot to mention that part... seems second nature after learning the hard way myself.

Super Clean!!

I cleaned off my friggin' transmission, still on the car, by spraying Super Clean on it, then washing it off with a pressure washer. It was like new. It IS a *little* bit caustic, though, so gloves may be recommended...

Not finding any of the suggested degreasers, I picked up a bottle of carb/fuel injector cleaner that you're supposed to add to the gas-tank.

Left the piston's sitting in that for 24hrs and all the carbon basically wiped off. Pretty wicked stuff, and not harsh on the hands at all.

Does anyone know how dealerships get engine bays so clean? They can make a 150K mile engine bay look like new. In order for me to achieve the same results i would have to disassemble the whole engine and clean everything with a toothbrush and solvent. At that point you might as well change the water pump, motor mounts, gaskets, timing belt, forged pistons... This is precisely how a cleaning job turns into a mess. Can someone divulge some trade secrets here?

Parafin, worked like a charm. I went through loads of Kleen Green and some horrible degreasers and it was really slow. The parafin worked like a charm. Even better once I put it into one of the water washers you get with the pneumatic kits for the air compressors.

I wonder what you used to clean up the vomit? share your experience if someone has children they can vomit or pets - the question actually worries many. I recently found an article about cleaning vomit in the car How to clean vomit from car | 5 steps you need to know about vomit cleaning and already tried some methods. For example, a steam cleaner can be effectively used; it helps, together with soda, to eliminate unpleasant odors. What do you think?
