My 2.3 10v is dying and was looking at some swaps wanted to go to something smaller but more powerful so got to the 2.0T. Will it bolt right up to the 01A quattro transmission or will it need an adapter plate? If it needs an adapter are there any other swaps that would be as plentiful and easy?

If you want plentiful and easy then I'd go 1.8T. You can use factory 4cyl mounts and it will bolt right up to the 01A with a normal 1.8T clutch/flywheel, and they're much easier engines (and more reliable depending on which 2.0T you're talking) to work on and no DI to worry about.
