Sorry to hear you won't be at SoOh. I won't be either due to engine rebuild and installing VEMS. Isn't Show-Me rally same roads at 100aw?
Yea, we wanted to make it again to Ohio but it just won't work out this year. We can shoot for both of us at 2019 Southern Ohio Rally.
I hope you engine build goes well, was this normal maintenance or an upgrade?

Show-Me rally uses some of the same roads as 100aw but it also has some stages that are Show-Me only, and they are very fun stages.

Cool, I'm considering Show Me rally instead of ESPR. The engine rebuild was due failure caused by detonation event...hence reason why I'm going VEMS as well.

In the Spirit of Southern Ohio Forest Rally (SOFR), even though we are not racing it this year. I thought I would post some rally work that has happened on the Audi.
Rear Subframe is installed with our original differential and the new radiator is installed.
We saved 11lbs by going with the aluminum radiator. The original radiator weighted 18lbs, the aluminum one is 7lbs.
The fit was good. Has all the stock mounting points. The lower mount used a smaller rubber isolator but worked fine. The thread for the temperature switch was correct. The only fitting that was a little big was the overflow fitting. Had to use a larger hose but it worked fine. The block off plug on the front is a 25mm Samco Cap.
The radiator was from ebay, worley2013, 2 core aluminum radiator for Audi 80, 90 Quattro 42mm core.

Out with the Old

In With the New

Nice! Anything to get some weight off the front end! My radiator is a custom-made front mount. So heavy. Despite my searching I can't find an exact replacement, guess I need to fab some mounts and make it work. Anyway, nice work!

Show-Me Rally is almost here. Just a little prep on the car. New tires are mounted up and the Truck and Trailer are hooked up and ready to go. 33 Cars signed up so far, should be fun.

2018 Show-Me Rally Update:

My brother, The normal driver of the car, could not make the rally so I made my Rally DRIVING debut with my wife as my Co-Driver in her first ever rally.
I had done some rallycross races and been co-driving for 5 seasons but it was still a different experience.
The rookie meeting and tech went well and we were ready to go. Starting towards the last, but that is expected in your first race. I did get to pick my start position and put myself behind the #140 BMW 318i. Just so I could watch and hear them launch.
Stage 1 was the super special at the Lions Club park. This was like a rallycross and it went well. Stage 2, the first real stage was the stage that my brother and I had rolled the car on at the 2015 Show-Me rally. My wife did a great job of calling that corner and we had a good time on the stage. I can not believe how stable the car is on stage, I was going rather slow but I could fell how stable controlled the car is. I am going to have to get my brother faster if that is how the car feels, we have so much more speed in the car.

The first 6 stages went well we dropped time on every rerun of stages. Stage 5 and 6 were very fast and fun.
A thunderstorm and heavy rain moved in just as we started stage 7 and we could hardly see on stage. Then as it started to let up a tree branch fell and knocked off the drivers side windshield wiper, I had to stop on stage and take the passengers wiper off and put it on the drives side, you can see us in the in-car from this youtube video at 9:35, This give you an idea of the conditions.

Missouri Ozark Rally Update:

We competed at the first Missouri Ozark Rally (MOR) and had our best finish ever. 1st in class (NA4WD) and 2nd overall. The trophies were walnut engraved paddles (the area we race in has some very nice canoeing areas). Very happy with the result. We held off some fast teams that were struggling with some issues so we know we are going to need to pickup the pace at 100AW.

Car did great and it was good to get my brother back in the drives seat after almost a year.
Stage 2 was a little loose as my brother knocked the rust off and got back in the grove. The video below shows the first water dip that almost ended our event but the ditch kept us out of the trees and everything was smooth after that.
We were still using the old soft compound tires we will break the new tires in at 100AW.
Enjoy the pictures and videos. I will post some updates as we install an oil cooler before 100AW and take care of some new wiring rules and do some tuning.

Congrats! Love the pic of Javad
Thanks. You are the first to comment about it. 034 sent that in one of our orders after we kept asking about stickers for the rally car. My brother and I laugh every time I pull it out my co-driver bag. He rides in every rally with us now. We are trying to DRIVE FASTER.

Hey guys, nice work on finishing the rally. Congrats. What's next for this year?
Thanks. This was our first podium finish and we hope to have a few more this season.
We will be at 100AW on March 15-16th, Southern Ohio May 16-18th and ShowMe on October 5th.
Hope you can make it to one of these races this year as well.

See you at Southern Ohio! I'm doing sandblast instead of 100aw due to proximity to me.
That is great. We will see you then. If all goes well we will try to go head to head at the fairgrounds in Ohio. We did that two years ago with the Audi of Paul Johansen and Susie Little. The head to head is a blast.

Keep it on the road at Sandblast and we will see you then.

2019 100 Acre Wood Rally did not go as we would have liked.
The car only made it to Stage 4 before low oil pressure caused a rod knock. We pulled over on stage and had heavy sweep pull us to the end. Not bad for an engine that we put together in 2013 and outlived the first rally car shell.
It spun the #1 rod bearing. Pictures are below along with a video of stage 4 when the rod started knocking.
We experienced some strange low oil pressure on stage 3, possilbe the oil bypass in the oil pump was sticking open.
We hope to save the crank because it was balanced but we will see.

We still plan on making it to Ohio. The engine is apart and will go to the machine shop on Monday.
It sure would have been a good weekend for us, conditions were great. We will rebuild and come back stronger.
Enjoy the pictures and the videos

Waiting for Stage 1

Check out the in car video of us passing our good friends Andy Ecker and Adam Hardin in the 1991 Jetta (#122). They lost their passenger rear tire just as we pull out to pass them. Look for the wheel on the in car video, 0:23. Crazy

We had no idea until we watched the video
