What is the easiest/least painful approach to removing and reinstalling the steering rack on a small chassis Audi? This will be on my 20V Coupe. The bentley manual says to remove all the associated items above it like the brake booster and master cylinder then to remove from above. I've heard stories of people also removing it through the access hole in the firewall. Some people have gone as far as to pull the engine and transmission.

I should note that I am going to be doing my oil pan gasket and the timing belt/front belts so most of the front of the car is already removed if that affects the pulling the engine option. The car is in my driveway now, but I can always wait to do the oil pan gasket when I am at a buddies shop with lift access.
