When looking at the rear suspension of the B6 I get the feeling that space usage was a priority, the B5 design consumes more space IMO. The B5 design largely carried over from earlier B chassis quattros is a coil over shock design. The B6 uses separated springs on the lower A arm and shocks placed elsewhere. The B6 gained some aluminum rear suspension componentry which may have helped keep mass down... but who cares, the car needs mass reduction up front not out back.

Clearly I'm not a suspension engineer. I dont doubt that the B6 design works well, but I prefer the B5 system to the B6. Having a coil spring over shock setup seems preferable if you are adding height adjustable suspension. Both designs are very capable of performing well, certainly both are compromised for NVH concerns and longevity.

I dont think I'd base my purchase of a b5/b6 on the rear suspension.
