Bag O' Snakes Vs. cast manifold

Sooooo . . . As far as I know the 7A engines supplied with the old school tubular headers vs the later cast exhaust manifolds were rated at the same output from the factory, right? So is there a real advantage to the Bag O' Snakes headers on the 7A motor? Different power band? Different sound? What gives exactly?

different sound for sure. many claim there is a HP gain, but that could just be the old "it sounds faster" sort of thing.

The real question is, what do you care? you are going turbo right :)
Bag O' Snakes header flows better but was more expensive, cast was cheaper, but didnt flow as good.
Audi tuned the later 7A ecu (around 5hp) to compensate what they lost on the exhaust.
The best combo is the Bag O' Snakes header with a later ECU.

Point taken! Well eventually I will I suppose, but that ain't gonna be for a while yet! Still need to finish building our house so I can have a garage for said project.

I just kept hearing about this cool header, and checked my VIN, mine should have the tubular header according to the VIN, but I haven't pulled back the heat shield to see for sure. You never know on a 23 year old car with who knows how many previous owners, right?

I kinda wondered if that might be the case. One can have a 7A ecu flashed (or are these hard soldered chips?) for an even better gain though, correct?

Ahhh! What is all this talk of N/A tuning though?? It must be that my brother just bought an e36 ///M3 and I was impressed at what a nicely tuned N/A engine could do. I was looking at the e36 for a while too, but I just can't seem to get way from being an Audi guy! It seems I have a sickness . . . one shared by most on this Forum

really easy to tell, no need to pull anything. Look at the front of your Intake Manifold. if you have the hose that runs towards the airbox you have a bag of snakes. if you don't you don't (unless someone installed one)

See this large heat shield and the tube: early version with bag of snakes:

see the lack of tube here on the front, late non bag of snakes:

I can tell from your pics that you posted that you do have the bag of snakes style.

Aha! Well thanks for the revelation. It is becoming clear to me why Nick values your help so much! Mystery solved. By the way, when you are in Utah, do you happen to be in the Bountiful Area? Spotted a Coupe near 500 south in bountiful. Although, I don't know what your E-S2 looks like at all.
I actually no longer have a coupe. You probably saw Nate, a carbon fiber hood and black wheels and black bumpers. I'm in a multi colored s6 avant or a dark grey b6 a4 avant.
Oh I didn't realize that. Thanks for the pics of it though ;) Nice looking!

The one I saw I saw from behind, it was pearl, but that's about all I could tell you, was parked on a side street near the top of 500 south. Definitely not black bumpers though, might have been a pretty stock coupe actually. I didn't get a good look, I'll have to go by again and see if its still there.
oh was it off of 700? i know that one as well, it has a bad headgasket.

Yes! That's exactly where it was. You guys get around to knowing everyone with old rare Audi's, dont' you? Is he on here at all?
