Well, after a couple of years of mostly lurking here on MG, I thought I would introduce myself now that I have a project to add to the site. I have owned two Audis prior to this one (a '96 A4 12v and my current daily driver which is an '01 A4 Avant).

CQs are hard to come by locally here in Oklahoma. So, the wife and I went to Chicago last weekend and we met up with the previous owner of this '91 CQ. It's rough, needs lots of work, but it was cheap. My plan, in time, is to fix it up and do a 20vt swap, but it won't happen overnight that's for sure. I'll be moving slow as time, space and money permit. Now, on with the pics.

While on the way home, it hit a milestone.

Just checking in with some updates and some questions too.

Exhaust
I have received all of the parts needed for the exhaust (royal rogue). I went to the shop, get it on the lift and there's a fuel leak at the fuel filter. I don't remember seeing that before, but needless to say, it didn't get the exhaust put on. Hopefully, I can work on that this weekend.

Lighting
Within the next few weeks, I hope to receive a set of one-piece b3 euro lights. Only the high beams work on my current lights and they are missing the back covers. And the relay job from the PO needs to be re-done. Should I buy all of the parts myself and follow the 20v.org diagram or are there places that sell the relay kits already made?

Body Repair
At some point in the past, someone failed at putting the car on a lift PROPERLY. Here's a picture of the damage.

I know this won't be a cheap and easy fix, but how would you go about it? Have it pulled at a body shop or just have them weld in a new rocker panel? Part #3 is available from genuinevwaudiparts.com for $300 plus shipping.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

only the high beams working was the light switch (stalk) on my 200, seems to be a common failure, they probably got relayed a bit too late.

Holy crap that is some nasty damage from the lift. Check with a local body shop - they'll tell you what your best option is. I'm guessing it won't be cheap either way you look at it.

Was this one originally for sale in southern WI?

Wish my fenders were that clean... Bumpers too.
I didn't show the bad side of the bumper.

Here's an S2 rear waiting to go on. I've also got a euro coupe front with fogs and turns on its way too.

While we're on the subject...what are the chances I can get these rusty bumper bolts off without damaging them? I'd like to mount the brackets and then install the bumper on the brackets.

wire brush, run a die over the threads, and soak them. BTDT on stuff like that.

I'd have the rocker replaced, BTDT when I smushed mine on who knows what (seriously, I hit something, but NEVER found what it was no matter how many times I went back and looked). It's spot welded on from what I remember.

I guess this project has had a little case of "out of sight, out of mind" a bit. But I do have some updates. It's been getting some body work by a friend's dad when he finds time to work on it. Progress is slow, but at least it's moving in A direction now. Now, it's in money saving mode so I can have the whole car resprayed.

Rear rocker panel damage. Thanks to audiopro for the donor piece.
Before

After

Rust on the rear below the left tail light
BEFORE

After (as you can see here, the S2 bumper has been installed)

There was a ton of bondo on the driver's side fenders from a previous half-ass repair job and a dent in the door.
Before

After

He tried to pull the front portion of the rocker panel. We may need to use another piece of donor rocker...not sure yet.

After

Now that it's back home, I'll work on installing some parts.

Euro coupe bumper. I'm thinking I will shave the sprayers. Any thoughts on that?

UrS6 three-spoke steering wheel. Anyone got the '95 90 column clam shelf for sale?

One-piece B3 headlights.

Any thoughts on the respray?

My friend's dad that I will use to paint the car suggests something like the Cadillac White Diamond Pearl. Says he's had good luck with it in the past.

Or should I just stick with the stock Audi Pearl White? I'm sure most people know what it looks like.

I know how much you like your rare blue colors, why not go with a Kingfisher blue?

That color is hot.... if it would work on my S6 I would do it in a heart-beat, but it doesn't fit the car.
