Who would've known the 5.2 would sit right at home in this pig? And with 8" extra between the crank and the front bumper lol. I had to trim the hood to clear the HPFP's, but damn... I'm hoping to have it running by the end of the year.

Pretty simple and basic ~500hp build
-Long Tube Headers
-Intake Spacers
-Ringer Racing Stage 5 Clutch... For all the launches lol

Awww hell yeah. Keeping it NA?

Definitely keeping this one N/A. Call me crazy, but I prefer the loud, screeching V10. All turbos do is muffle it... plus I'd rather not have to deal with the tuning aspect of a boosted application...

Very logical! Excited to watch the progress and see it running

Engine and transmission came out today, this thing is just caked in grease. Gave it a really good cleaning and will get it back on to start making the exhaust relatively soon. In the meantime, it's time to start cleaning some valves. Here's 1 pass on cylinder #1, already a night and day difference!

Pulled the engine and transmission out today.. In all my time of having the 2.2T, 4.2T, and now this 5.2 in and out of the car, I've never once pulled the transmission. It was absolutely caked in shit! Gave it a thorough cleaning and am fairly happy with the results. I'm moving onto the intake valves in the meantime until my header flanges get here.. Man, these FSI engines are no joke when it comes to carbon buildup. Here's one pass on cylinder #1. I'm guessing I just need to do 2 passes on each and I should be pretty gravy.

Got me a Ringer Racing Stage 5 Clutch and Flywheel Kit. 925lbs of capacity on a single disk with a stock B7 RS4 pedal feel and 20lbs steel flywheel for ultimate daily drivability... yet I can really lay into it on the launches and donuts this time. Overkill for sure, but I'm all about that full send life when my cars do run... :woowoo: :woowoo:

Um.. Bolted the clean transmission back up, I have so.. much... tubing... for the long tube headers. Just need to get in my custom cut 3/8" Stainless Flanges. I was contemplating on making a new transmission mount crossover to bolt on the underside and to free up the room where the stock mounts go, buttttttttttt the stock URS can fit a 3" downpipe under the axles so I figured I can too.. Gonna be fun.

Guess that's it for now. ECU's are on their way to get the immobilizers deleted so I can first start it no problems. (Assuming I don't suck (Which I do)).

Here's to the Understeer Gods..

thats gonna be a pretty cool sleeper...

A sleeper you say?

I put in a solid 4 hours on it today getting the longtube headers made. It's a shame some 5-1 collectors aren't going to fit between the engine and the front axle. I have to pull cylinder 6 in from the side right at the base of the collector if I have any hope of it working. First thing tomorrow though I need to get the engine in the car to see where cylinder 6 can/can't go due to space constraints on the frame rails and maybe this weekend I'll have them welded.

I know the 4-1 isn't ideal so roast away

Given that you needed to clearance the hood to give room for the HPFP, I'm thinking with that R8 intake you'll be needing a HOOD SCOOP!!! Can't wait to see it.
What gearbox do you use? Any adapter needed?

My mate has a VW Passat 32b synchro just standing around and there happens to be an S8 V10 engine as well.

Would make a nice project if the gearbox could be easily solved.

I'll hold off on the intake manifold for now. Not too keen on modifying the hood and I'd like to get this setup running first lol.
I'm using the stock 5sp 01e transmission. There's no adapter needed. Just swap in a D3 A8 rear timing cover with a C6 A6 3.2 5mm transmission spacer and it bolts right up to any 01e / 0a3 trans!

Did a test fit and all seems good with room for 1 more on each side! I'll have them welded this week once I get some purging gas and then finish the last runner; hopefully by the weekend.

I'll bet it weighs no more than your V8t setup...just a little longer, so it won't affect balance too horribly.
I absolutely guarantee it'll be about the same. That schedule 10 piping, turbo, wastegate, intercooler... all very heavy.

This is just an all around better setup in my opinion. I have 8 inches in total for radiator to sit between the bumper and front of the engine. About 3" with the shroud installed which is a shit ton compared to the last one with the radiator, intercooler, and fans.
I don't know why I decided to randomly check MG today but I'm glad I did. That V10 coupled with a manual trans should be fantastic. Also, if you listen to exhaust note on some of the C6 S6s...hot damn.

This is interesting considering the 07k adapter requirements, very awesome!

The S6's/S8's from the factory are meh. Once these V10's get tube's out the exhaust it changes the entire car! I'm thinking the manual will just add a completely new aspect for it. I was able to weld the primaries up last Wednesday, but kinda ran out of time.. It'll be a few weeks before I make any progress; not that I'm worried about it though.

Congratulations on the little one! Definitely going to be a few weeks until you get back out there, get sleep instead ;)
Congrats Joel, I wish my car projects got finished before my kids. My son is turning 14...and my CQ is still not done.
Congrats!

Thanks everybody! Man does time fly; I've had a few nights to get away to the garage while my wife and Lillian visit the in-laws!

Headers fully welded minus the v-bands..
Filled in a bolt hole on the rear timing cover and grinded it down.
Re-sealed the timing covers + rear main seal
Welded on a 1/2" piece of aluminum to the transmission that'll be drilled + tapped to accept the crank sensor and mounting bracket
Installed the Ringer Racing Stage 5 Clutch Kit
Assembled engine + transmission
Headers are going on as soon as these V-bands are done!

But don't take my word for it!
