And the money shot.

Lots more to do but yes that is a VR6 in a 993 Porsche.
Links to build.

I like everything about this
bad ass
i need new boxers.
Freakin legit.
how much weight does it add to the back? I love the engine but a porsche has to handle, and more weight in the back is a really bad thing for a rear engine car. does it happen to be awd?
Not AWD. What I have been told is that the motor weights are as follows:
VR6: 373 lbs
Porsche 3.2: 440 lbs
Using a relatively heavy cast iron exhaust manifold & turbo probably evens things out. May be more weight up higher but when comparing this to putting an LS1 motor in the rear it cannot be that bad. Besides that it is an all VAG product. For now just using the stock ECU with C2 software & no intercooler. Working first on getting it together & on the road/track.

lighter? huh, I would not have guessed that with everyone saying how heavy the vr6 is. I do not mean to keep tweaking what is not mine but have you considered mounting the engine in the middle, if not too long? that would really be the fix. could have room in back for the turbo, air/h2o ic, exhaust system and even some storage.....course, no more back seats but really, did those count?
it might be lighter, but the weight of a vr6 sits higher than a flat 6, no?
Also remember that those are probably dry weight, and the flat 6 is dry sump and air cooled.

I will try to get a picture of the engine in the bay. It sits lower than you might think. As stated, there is more weight up higher now but with a different exhaust manifold (read tubular) and the turbo mounted lower it will become less of an issue. When we corner balance it I will post up the numbers.
The engine was not mounted in the middle to keep the inherent value of the 993 shell intact. What you are describing with the engine mounted in the middle would be suitable for a Boxster or Cayman.

Cool! Looks like a badass machine, camo looks mean too. I started to read the vortex thread but got burnt out on idiots bashing it. Thanks for posting it here.

Thank You. I had waited to post anything until after it was running. Did not read any of the threads about this or even know of their existence until after the post here was made. It was then that my first post was edited, adding links to other forums. Too busy wiring it up to even care I guess. Still though it is sad to hear anyone bad mouth another's project build unless it was done by taking advantage of others. Even the Porsche dudes on the Pelican site did not criticize the choice of a Vr6. MG ROCKS!

I'll be glad to have this finished as it has taken most of my spare time this summer to get the wiring to this point. Still need to to headlights & interior/doors & dash. Started with a stripped shell and worked from there. Aftermarket harness kit :jerk:, Porsche & VW schematics and a few Porsche connectors. There was very little factory wiring to start with. Many lessons learned bay all parties involved.

Pretty cool swap!
Cool car/ project!

Eff subway/photo bucket and there effing adds, not allowing me to fully enjoy the pics.
No, I don't want sandwich.
Am I the only one who is saddened and offended by this project? I like the paint job tho :p

yes, its just a car. People get to horney on p-cars. They are sweet, but they are not that rare. Its just a bunch of metal plastic rubber and glass.

I personally would've gone with an 07K, but I've seen much worse swaps into 911's... carbed 350's and 4G63's
better than seeing a BMW or M-B engine go into it :D
(still like those engines but I think you know what I mean)
meh, its just a car and its just and engine. Owner thinks its cool, then its legit.
