So a long time ago I obtained a set of beam control motors and a matching adjustment switch.

Then a couple of months ago, I got a set of Depo reproduction B3 80 headlights and installed them. Good upgrade from US spec headlights and not too expensive.

I then wanted to install the beam control motors so inspected them to see how that would be possible. I couldn't find any info anywhere about it so that's why I'm telling y'all about it.

The Depo headlights have a spot for the motors to go. I opened up the headlights to find that the clip that secures the "static" post wouldn't mount to the beam control motors.

So I decided to 3D model a clip, had it sent off for printing and they arrived yesterday. I installed them and they work very well.

Here is the clip, for anyone to use.

Next, the wiring was a bit tricky to figure out and I couldn't find anything written about it either, so I thought I would summarize as well. (Wiring diagram included, courtesy of s2central.com)

One of the pictures shows the pin numbering for the motors.
The pins on the switch are labeled
Power to Pin 5 of the switch is only for the switch bulb, my bulb is out so I omitted and they work fine.
There is no control unit, the motors have a potentiometer inside that compares to the reference signal from the switch.

To install:
Remove lens from headlight
Remove the "fixed length" pivot point
Unscrew the screw from the motor
Place screw through this custom piece and screw back onto motor
Insert the motor into the headlight, guiding the clip into the square slot of the lens frame
NOTE the securing tabs must be in the vertical orientation as shown, the square slot is actually slightly rectangular.
Reassemble lens.

Wire up and install switch.

All in all, this is probably not necessary, as I have stiff suspension and not planning to carry any loads that would drastically alter the angle of the chassis. But I always got jealous when I saw the headlight dipping switch in the European cars. Not anymore. :D

Nicely done! I have a set of bosch Ecodes in mine that have the motors. I have often thought about finding a switch, but never did.

Well done, indeed! Tidy way to utilize an OG feature.

Nice job, very OEM+. Does anyone know if this could be done to the B3 euro one-piece headlights? IIRC, they have similar adjustment mechanisms.
