i still like a few local fm stations, and have always had terrible fm reception in my 200.. and now with a new head unit/speakers and new antenna nothing has changed and I bugs me more. I'm assuming it probably has to do with the antenna amplifier shown in the Bentley wiring diagrams but I can't figure out how that works or where it is even.

The new replacement antenna has one wire in addition to the antenna coaxial, same as the old fubu one did. Its plugged into the factory wire like the original one. is this wire supposed to be power? (because it isn't currently getting power if so..) or if not, where does that head to? (the factory wire is white and isn't a ground).

Thanks for any tips

That wire goes to the antenna wire (I thought it blue?) coming from the HU. That should turn the amp on.

The car doesnt have the original amp, nor did it/does it have the original head unit since I've owned it. That's part of my problem with diagnosing it, most of the stereo wiring was hacked up by a PO at some point. The antenna wire i'm referring to is the red one in the photo, which plugs into a white factory wire under the headliner- where the white one is supposed to go, is the question

Just to follow this up for anyone in the future, the extra antenna wire is supposed to get power (its got a built in fm amplifier apparently) the factory white wire that feeds it runs to a harness under the rear seat that im assuming originally interfaced with the factory stereo amp, which is mia in my car.. I added switched power to that wire and it make a slight improvement. also redid both ends of the coaxial, which may have helped a bit too.. guess its as good as im getting for 1930's technology
