So I haven't done anything to the car as it's been single digit cold and snowing for the past few days but got in a few parts. Got a 3b manifold for a decent deal and a eBay manifold I bought some time ago from a member. Once I start building up the AAN and test fitting things I will see if I for sure will use the 3b manifold or keep the AAN.ImageImage

To use the AAN intake you'll either have to delete the A/C condenser and aggressively tilt the rad, or cut the manifold and re-weld the throttle body as close to the front as you can. There's not a ton of info about re-positioning the TB available online so I just used some pics from S2forum and Hank's webiste. If you have access to a good welder it's not too hard to accomplish.

Yeah I figured I'd see if I can do a front mount rad and the cars AC system is completely removed so not worried about a condenser getting in the way. I actually was practicing some aluminum welding to day at work before I did a task that required welding. Not weld porn but I don't think it's that bad since I haven't tig'd aluminum since Fab class in college sometime ago . I plan on buying a Tig welder here pretty soon so I can do some Fab work at home so we shall see if I decide to mod the intake for not.Image

Looks pretty good for practice!

With the cast aluminum, I'd recommend two things: clean the weld zone with acetone, then pre- and post- heat the manifold at 200F for 20 minutes to help remove impurities and normalize the metal during the cool down period.

thanks, I remember something like that in weld class about pre heating cast Aluminum or iron or they can crack. I lf I go along the mod route I may also look into cutting up a 7a intake I have for the runners and flange and try crafting a manifold with it just for the fun of it.

Got something done today since it was about 45 out and not negative 14 out. Pulled the head off the 7a so when I'm ready to pull the cams I can do it on the bench. Cylinders looked pretty decent with no scoring. Hopefully the AAN looks the same. ImageImage

Update: so decided to just stick with the Aans flywheel for now and maybe an aluminum lwfw later on as I will be able to just use the Spec stage 1 clutch kit I already have. Should be a decent match for the ecu I just got in. It turns out that the ecu is socketed and has stage 1 chips in it which was a pleasant surprise for me as I was told it was an unopened stock ecu and got it for a steal. Also I got in some b5 a4 rear hubs and pulled the knuckles of the part out s6 for the hubs. From what I read the front and rear hubs on the s6/s4 are the same? Can anyone confirm this for sure ?ImageImageImage

Been out of town and busy so I have not done any work on the car for a couple weeks but some things are still happening.
Before heading back home from MD I grabbed a few parts from a prior build I wanted to do on my s4 that never took off.
Bosch 044, Trick Flow 630cc injectors, and most likely the Vibrant FMIC may end up being used in this build. Also grabbed the pair of Brembo GTs mentioned in a previous post.
For shigs and Gigs I wanted to see how far off the mounting bracket and was not expecting to be remotely close, I held it to a URS front knuckle and surprisingly it was close, matter a fact almost dead on. I grabbed a couple of bolts to see if it was able to be bolted and they fit!! (disregard the incorrect long bolt used for mock up purposes). Even to the centering of the rotor to caliper looks to be aligned pretty decent as well. The Brembo GT kit was off of some VW I was told by the guy I got em from but the PN on the bracket is pictured.

Do urs4/6 front calipers bolt up to the B3 Audi knuckles?

As usual slow progress but got some some stuff done the other day while the weather was decent. I Finished pulling the 7a harness and ecu out so I can start getting ready to put the aan harness in.

Does the dash have to come out to pull the harness? Also, what are you using to help figure out the wiring?

Yes dash has to be removed luckily I removed the dash a while ago and stripped a lot of stuff from behind it and modded it so I can put in in and out in about 5 mins. The info I'm using for the harness is a write up from a swap jolio1994 did and aan harness information write up by urs4boy.

if you mean the urs4/6 harness, no the dash can stay.
I removed my dash from my CQ first time, left in for later

Eventually, I want to do a 3B swap on my CQ and plan to use a stock 3B harness. Just wasn't sure if it would be incrementally easier with the dash pulled from either car.

Yeah the aan harness I didn't remove the dash for the 90 I did so there was more space plus I pulled the dash harness to to see if I can clean it up. I'm not sure if you have a complete interior if you would need to pull but from the looks of things it is way easier when the 90 dash is out or at least majority of the surrounding stuff

Exciting update:
Finally got a Tig welder! Now I can do Fab work when needed on the car once I get everything set up. It's an AHP Alpha Tig not one the big brands but I've been looking at one of these for some time as it can do DC Ac and is dual voltage. Also got a full argon tank from cyberweld which the shipped pretty quick for free. Can't wait to break this thing out and get some Fab stuff going on. Still I have practicing aluminum Tig at work when I have the time but now I can do it at home ImageImageImageImageImage

That's great! You will have to let us know your experice with the alpha Tig. I'm currently looking at one myself.

Will do really nothing keeping me from testing it out is I want to get some thread tape for the flow meter and it's 26 out so probably 32 degrees in the garage

Got A little first welding on before focusing back on the car. It welds nice just the foot pedal does not seem linear but there is an aftermarket pedal I may look at. Would probably also help when I get a decent set up for welding on an putting my welding equipment on haha.
As for the project, I pulled off the flywheel and pressure plate to see if any signs of leaks. I stripped one bolt for the pressure plate and after failing to get it out I decided to break out me old flux welder. I welded on a bolt and got the sucker off with ease. Clutch was toasted and looked like it scored the pressure plate but spared the flywheel. Probably going to have to get the flywheel resurfaced but will decide that after further inspection
Next I got the motor of the garage floor and on to a engine stand. This will make it easier to work on when I get to pulling off unneeded things and pull the head for inspection, mls gasket and head studs. Also mocked up the eBay manifold for fitment and a little more motivation to do stuff in the 30-40 degrees lol ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I’d like to get a welder and learn to use it some day. Would definitely come it handing stubborn bolts and many other things. I went ahead and had my flywheel resurfaced on my project. Seemed silly to not spend the $25 while everything was apart.

Yea with good instructor and 5 hrs for 6weeks like I got when I was in college at UNOH you can learn to Tig , oxy-fuel weld aluminum, oxyfuel cutting, plasma cutting and some basic metallurgy. For pesky bolts I'd say a flux core welder works pretty good as you can weld on some pretty dirty stuff. Only down side is the slag and some spatter.
As for the flywheel, if it's about tht cheap around where I'm at to resuface then no doubt I'm getting it redone regardless if it look good or not. Just got to find a place to get it done at

Did some more stuff today. Pulled off the alternator, power steering pump and ac pump. Ran into another bolt that didn't want to come out so gave it the same treatment as before and broke out the flux welder. Next I tried pulling the crank bolt but couldn't keep the motor from spinning so I'll have to find a locking tool or make one. Called it a day after that and started to look at what little bits I'd need for the motor like the c clip for the pressure regulator. Then while putting the motor back in it's corner I pushed a little to far in an it roll to the side instead of back and damaged the outer tail on the 90 .So now that's something else added to the list to fix later on I guess .ImageImageImageImage

Which corner did you break? I have some spares. Also, I have a crank lock tool that a friend and I made if you don't feel like making one.
