I’m glad I checked before running wires... seat doesn’t clear everything so I had to revise my layout...

Slow progress, continue bolting components into place. Fuel pumps mounted. 044 in tank into dual 1 litre surge tanks with Bosch 044’s.

And test fitting radiator. When I ordered from Ron Davis they had never done one with a shroud and fan so...

Going to need to make a couple a offset brackets to pull forward approximately an inch, I’ll wait for final firmware until the engine is in so I’m not doing rework.

Yes, all over the place tonight as I’m not actually feeling like doing much...

Not doing to much with sound system, but want to be able to have some sound other than the engine occasionally!

I guess this is why there was no real depth to the sound!!

Image

I’ve been collecting parts for quite a while, although the factory stereo is mint I wanted something with some modern features like Bluetooth for hands free phone etc.

The Kienzle unit I have keeps the look but modern features. SD card, USB, audio jack and blue tooth. Also has steering wheel controls but don’t think I’m going to try to integrate into anything.

Front end out. More cleaning to do and some paint required.

Way easier removing bushings with frame out. Used a hole saw, quick drill and the air hammer to pop outside bit of bushing.

Question for the experts out there. As I am cleaning and putting stuff back together I am documenting parts numbers so that I can easily source parts...

I am trying to figure out the rotors that are on the front. I can’t find a part number anywhere. Only thing I have been able to find is AU16 inscribed. They are a 320 mm disc.

The hubs and knuckle are S2 parts.

Thoughts?

some info on the carriers and calipers? from my archives of the original build

"- I used bira system2 (996 cal/s4 rotor) on the eS2, and weighed it when I did the swap. It was definitely less in weight than the G60 setup, but I can't find the
details, and can't remember where I posted them. I just checked the bira website but no luck. I do remember the same relationship between
component weights, ie the S4 rotor was much heavier than the G60 rotor, and the 996 caliper was much lighter than the g60 caliper, for a net reduction of a couple pounds. Interestingly, I just put new front rotors on the S2, and one side rubbed the caliper very slightly such that I had to grind it down. (jack corner up, start engine in first gear, hold a file against the rotor edge!) Amazing that manufacturing tolerances could be so sloppy. It must have been at least 1mm in diam bigger than the one it replaced..."

So that rotor may be from an B5 S4

Thanks for the input. They are 996 big reds. The carriers are aluminum but don’t have any discernible markings on them.

Looking for thoughts on finding some cast control arms to put on the rear to eliminate the stamped steel units. I am doing ball joints anyway and have bushings for the cast units...

Any negatives to this? Anyone have some from a part out?

Ultimately I would like to do the AK Motorsports units but that is out of budget currently...

Thanks

Yes those are what I was thinking. Just a little less deflection I think... Same ball joints as the front I trust?

Did you ever confirm what front rotors you have? I have a B5 S4 with stock brakes and can take some measurements to help you confirm, if it helps. Just let me know what measurements you need.

I did not, no part number anywhere. I’m out of town (again) but I think the critical measurement would be from hub side of the rotor to the inside disc face and the overall thickness of the rotor.

Thanks very much

I like the idea of the heim joint track rods, but I have an issue of clearing the 10v WG.

That’s unfortunate - talking to some guys when I was at Mantorp steering improves - little less flex, better turn in etc.

Looking for some input - I have a couple of thoughts on this but wondering if others have found a really good way to clean the carpet while out of the car...
