With the exception of swapping out the oil filter housing (got one inbound from Issam), I think I’m just down to running vacuum lines.

Working on making room in the coupe. Im thinking about removing the engine and transmission together. What’s your preferred method? Is it best to drop it with the subframe and all the suspension? Or other? I do plan to refresh all brake parts and bushings while it’s apart.

When I took the engine out of my 90 I didn't take it out with the transmission. Its not hard to unbolt the engine from the bellhousing in terms of getting a ratchet in there but I did end up having to cut my downpipe in half. The subframe was in the way of the downpipe and I couldnt find a way to rotate the motor the correct direction in order for the downpipe to clear the subframe because the input shaft was still connected into the flywheel. Basically the downpipe hit the subframe before the input shift was disconnected so rotating the motor for the downpipe to clear the subframe was not an option. I will say that was my first time ever removing an engine from any car though and I may have just been able to drop the subframe. If youre planning on taking the tranny out also Id say do it all connected and drop the subframe, I haven't done it but I imagine itll be easier. That's my two cents, more experienced people may be able to give you a better answer.

I pulled the motor in similar fashion leaving the trans in. If I had to do it again I'd probably dropp the subframe and pull the trans and motor as one so theres more space when pulling it.

Just to follow up on the AC compressor interfering with the 3B oil filter housing, here are some pics with the AAN oil filter housing and AAN oil supply line installed. No more interference issues. And about 1/2 to 3/4” more space between the filter and compressor, to boot.

Progress is a little slower than I’d like on the coupe, but I was able to get some of the suspension torn down this afternoon.

I’d like to find a set of brake dust covers, but won’t hold my breath. I’ll probably just knock down the rust and apply the 3-step POR15 products. Thinking about using that stuff on a decent amount of the suspension and steering parts.

Stupid Question Alert!

The coupe is on jack stands, the front brakes and suspension are torn out, and all 4 alxes are still bolted up to the differentials. So, the ground and brakes are not available to me. What's the best way to break the CV joint bolts loose? Put the car in gear and attach the crank lock tool to keep the engine/drivetrain from rotating?

I use an impact gun on the inner CV bolts just make sure they are cleaned out and hammer the triple square in before pulling the trigger.

Good times working on the rear suspension/braking tear down. Both rear ABS sensors were stuck. Got sticker shock on replacements until I was pointed in the direction of the big truck’s sensor options.

Not much progress, but a little. All of the suspension and brakes are off the car, except the rear top mounts (I’ll get to those soon). The Summer heat is making me lazy. While I was looking for a set of e brake cables, I went ahead and ordered a full set of reman’d brake calipers, rather than rebuilding mine.

I’ve been working on removing the CA and subframe bushings. What a PITA! I’m only half way done and every one of them has put up a fight. Still have the rears to go and they look the worst (at least the CAs do).

I bought a ball joint press kit with the hopes it would make things easier, but have had to resort to heat, penetrating oil, hole saws, hacksaws, BFH’s, and chisels. I’ll be glad when this work is behind me so I can put some Verkline bling in.

Looks like that was a fun time. I will be putting some solid subframe bushings in the rear of my 90 sooner or later. Not really looking foward to getting the old bushings out lol

“One bite at a time”...is what I keep telling myself.

All bushings are officially removed. The rears were much more cooperative and I was able to use the ball joint press quite a bit.

Also completed the 1st two steps of POR15 prep (degrease and metal prep) on all of the suspension parts. Hope to paint them next weekend.

Managed to get some time in the garage today. Worked on cleaning my homemade coilovers. While I was at it, I swapped the springs front and rear, added the helper springs, and fitted the AKMS/Verkline top mounts.

I didn’t remember buying one set of offset mounts...I assume for the front?!

Got some more deep cleaning in this weekend. Focus was on wheel wells, which were quite nasty. There was also a decent amount of overspray on the wheel well liners from when I had the car painted.

Also mounted the rear strut assemblies with the Verkline top mounts

Looks great.

Not too long ago and I had the front clip off my CQ and had to take the car on an errand maybe 4 miles on the highway. The wheel well liners were destroyed. Completely shredded. Woops. Lesson learned. Thankfully Cabs have the same liners, spare a few updated mounting holes.

Managed to get the rear subframe back in place. Also routed the new emergency brake lines and ABS sensors. The sensors aren’t OEM so I cut off the old grommets. Better than nothing I suppose.

I also managed to break the emergency brake adjustment bracket. Quick trip to the hardware store and we’re back in business. The emergency brake has never worked in this car in the 10 years Since I bought it.

Couldn’t finish the rear suspension since I am waiting on my friend to press the new bearings into the hubs. So, I decided to start working on the interior. Need to remove the dash for harness and HVAC swap. Also want to pull out the carpet so I can clean it well and run the positive battery cable to the hatch. Carpets are pretty nasty.

Got the dash out today. I always look at this and hope I can remember how it all goes back together.

I also removed the air box since I’ll be converting to a manual control air box.

So, that lead to re-foaming the flaps and installing a new heater core on the replacement box. But in typical fashion with this project, it took a lot longer because the evaporator drain was broken on the replacement air box. I ended up using the shell of my original.

For anyone that has done this swap, are there 3 or 4 bowden cables? My air box has 3, but the left control knob has provisions for a cable, but no cable connected.
