John,
Thanks I know the one time we met in the pub I may have seemed more upbeat on your car than should have been possible by someone either sane or sober, no excuse. But your car is very close in many respects to this one and I was just happy someone took yours on and was trying to be encouraging. That you have the skills to do it yourself is brilliant.

I hope to update my steering wheel parcel shelf re-install, it is schedulled for June '11 if I can find where I put it.....
weather permitting.

cheers, Mike

Okay if I don't have any more input on the colo(u)r I am going Gobie beige, forget the colour it's jist a great name, aviator grey is an option?

hoor-nado red is a bit too subtle, but you never know.....

Mike,

Did you roll the rear fenders for 8" ronals?

I guess it's going to be plain grey silver seeing as you have your euro bumpers painted
plain grey silver already.

Cheers,

Craig

I almost got beaten to death by the MG crowd for doing Aviator Grey. They wanted my neck.

Hank, I know you did :-)

As Mr Cook knows the valences and fenders were painted Diamond Silver ~11 years ago. So I will be keeping the original colour. I need to dig out bumpers and valences to see if they have been scratched/damaged during the house move and
storage.....

Some pictures of this weeks progress, fender repairs, strut brace and fuse box

The new fuse box should make life a lot more pleasant....

Love that black epoxy, looks like the same stuff Audi puts on their new panels.
So.. I see the strut bar is also in! Looks like it will be done over the holidays!

Let me know when you are going up next, would love to see it in flesh.

Cheers

Where the heck are you getting the body work done..?
First it looked like someone' (really big) garage.
But then I see the old car under the cover, and what looks like some old school body panel roller over by the window..
Coming along very well!

Frank,

You should see the caliber and vintage of cars at this place, (Bugattis, Aston Martin for ex)... this quattro is exactly where it should be. ;)
This is the kind of place you learn the fina art of body work and panel finish.
Craig was lucky enough to have Paul work on his quattro as well.

Frank, it is like a very big garage with two other garages used for prep. Usually there
are more cars in the space.

Here are a couple of pictures of the repaired and primed fenders:

The engine bay should be getting painted on the weekend....

Exact engine spec is to be determined, targetting ~380hp

I kind of had an idea that's where it was. (Didn't Suzy q have a visit there too, to get the fender work done?)
I'm thinking that it's the kind of place that if one has to ask the price, one shouldn't be going there..

Mike will have a very nice urq when it done then, that's for sure!

That is correct, he was the one who fixed the inner fender/strut tower.

Cheers

The car is getting closer to final paint. Prep went from 320, 400 to 600 and then final wet sanding with
800.

The inslide of the engine bay, doors, bonnet, and boot lid have been painted. With
a bit of luck this week it will be going for paint. Door panels, bonnet, and trunk will
be bolted on before paint as metalic is very hard to match when the pannels are
painted separately, particularly light silver.

So it's going to be 'Metallic Silver' Aviator Gray? That's how I read it..

It's looking *soooo* good. Nothing like taking it all apart, and doing a full proper pain job!

As Craig says.. "It's going to be awesome when it's done!"

(say.... THat's an interesting driver's side tierod..!)
