Thanks Hank,

I love Tornado red, I think it is "the" sport color, not that I am saying I will go that way

My father's first Coupe GT was Mars red, so deciding on color is really tough, but for this carI just wanted the original Diamond Silve, I truly can't wait to see it in person, and the Highland Park is evaporating.

As Martin says I fear there is a bit more work to complete it, I am going to start looking for the glove box later tonight. I think I left it in the basement, by the furnace, yeah I am sure it's there.

Mike,

Looks stunning, I can picture it finished.............tis going to be awesome.

You've got alot on you plate at the moment......sport quattro build, this car, and
maintaining the fleet......busy man indeed.....great results though.

I hope you find your glove box and it's period correct, color matching, and in one piece.

Cheers,

Craig

Yeah, there were two early gloveboxes, one with textured spot for the speaker fader switch and one with a flat spot for it.... not to mention the fuse box trap door with or without insulation (early and late fuseboxes) ;)

You need some kind of vapour recovery system for that. It cannot be wasted! Is she legal or are you drinking the 12 year old?

They race into the first bend, 12 years running, we have Steve Eiche and Mike Hopton racing to finish their respective restorations. Hopton has been behind - but with this leap he charges even - shoulder to shoulder! Who will finish first?!??!!

I'm betting on Hopton. That Eiche fella is beyond hope. Rumor has it he may be parting it out...

Steve,

Say it 'aint so! What do you need to keep going with it? You have helped out lot's of Audi folks over the years and I am sure a lot of them would be willing to lend you a hand. Let me know if you need any parts/help to keep going? I would be happy to do what I can.

Last thing I want is for the Polish parts vulture to start raiding your collection :o

On my shell all the suspension has been powder coated, new wheel bearings, tie rods (well not the drivers front:), control arm busings, subframe bushings, strut mounts, Eibach linear springs, Bilstein sport shocks etc. But without paint how much would a rolling shell, with all new suspension parts be worth - not very much.

So I bit the bullet, hopefully now it is worth a fair bit more, as it's now just one life size Tamiya quattro kit....

Keep the faith!

cheers, Mike

p.s. How about we shoot for UPG 30?

Some pictures of the car with the satin black painted. The plan is to collect the
car next weekend and park it in the garage and start to tidy up the inside. I pulled
out the engine for it on the weekend and will start working on that. Before that
I have to make space in the garage and tidy up 50lbs of under coating....

Just remembered, don't forget the bit under the rear licence plate, that sticker is NLA. Might as well have Paul do it with that nice fresh paint.

Looks great. Did you roll the fenders? One of the reasons I waited for an 85 was for the "factory rolled" fenders and wider rear valence, but it's a pretty simple job if you're going to paint the car anyway.

The fenders have been rolled, I would like the option to run 15x8 ronals but may use Fuchs
on a daily basis. And the rear spoiler will be silver. I gave up on the idea of building it as close to original
as possible partly due to NLA parts. This will be my personal take on what a 2011/12 ur-q should be like.

Progress, you want progress, nah there hasn't been much, due to this:

Image

Stock 3B clutch didn't last too long, release bearing juddered for a couple of
weeks and then gave up completely.

And so the dilemma, throw in a Spec clutch with the current 016 torsen, which has
worn first gear synchros or upgrade. I don't really like the gear ratios on the 6 speed
diesel transmissions, so I found 6 speed 01E from a circa 2000 S4. And with parts
from Hank started the conversion. Hopefully be done before Brandon.

BTW, a man on the ground reports that Colorado ur-q owners, don't actually drive
their cars.....

Pulled the transmission myself, but luckily had some help from Martin and Craig, my
friend Tom was there too.....

Before the install I moved the manual speedometer drive over, if anyone needs the
tap, to chase the 01E housing let me know, as I can't see me using it very frequently

Image

Pretty new clutch, but why still plastic bearings like the one that failed...?

Image

Image

Custom 01E mounts, beautiful welding

Image

Even with the engine mounts slotted and the engine/transmission
pushed all the way back, yes it is nearly mid-engined. The transmission
mounts still need quite a bit of slotting...

Image

So the transmission is back in and hopefully get the car rolling soon.
After this it is back to rebuilding the '83........

Another failed Sachs bearing, I am beginning to think they had a bad production run of these things. I had two fail, but the third has been going strong. I thought it was due to my clutch design (Billet Plate clutch from 034), but now I am thinking just crappy bearings. I am going to be running one of their all metal TO bearings from now on for Billet Clutches
