nice looking car. I've been considering getting an E34 or an E28 as a replacement for the S6...

very nice! Those headers should work nice with that cam! Do you plan on dynoing it? What is the stock hp rating? I've spent a bit of time looking into ?/& power mods but I alresdt have turbo stuff. Be careful I have read that ireland headers get mighty close to the firewall, even touch in some cases...

I think I'm going to run 255/40 17 all around on mine.

my buddy has a 628csi euro model and I was surprised to see it was an M30 not an M20.

can't wait to se further progress, I love these cars, a very dofferent yet strangely similar experience to my 200.

Hey guys,

Fall update....

I daily drove this car all summer after the head rebuild last winter. I purchased the Coupe in May with the intention of fixing it up (the Coupe) over the summer and driving it in the winters to come, allowing me to once again store the BMW. I literally have done nothing to the BMW this summer except an oil change and kept it clean. Last night I pulled the wheels/tires and cleaned up the wheel wells a bit, also washed the car. This winter I'll wax it, work on the suspension, clean some more, and do a few small paint touch-ups as time permits.

Here are some head assembly pictures from earlier in the summer:

Washed and stored, ready for some winter projects! I put winter tires on because I wasn't sure how the Coupe was going to unfold. Fortunately it has all worked out and I shouldn't have to drive the BMW this winter.

Can't believe it's been 9 years since I posted in this thread! Life got crazy starting in Jan of 2012 with my first kid, another in 2013, a marriage, separation, numerous cars... anyway. I still have this car! I was looking for some info about it and remembered this thread, figured an update wouldn't hurt, not that anyone is following anymore.

Updates to the car:
- E31 Brembo front calipers
- Rear 20mm Nurburgring Sway bar
- Bump steer spacers that I made on a lathe believe it or not
- Rebuilt the rear diff (https://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=142750)
- Basic maintenance stuff

I haven't driven it much in recent years, to the point of not even registering the plates the past 2 years. I'm on the fence about selling it but know I'll regret it the instant I do. I still have plans to fix it up, but that may not happen for another 2 years based on life circumstances. It's not really costing me anything except I keep classic car insurance on it (~$225/year).

Future plans would include:
- Coilovers
- New tires (still on the Dunlops I bought like 10 years ago)
- Full rear end rebuild (wheels bearings, bushings, powder coat the subframe, etc etc)
- Paint job (super ambitious)
- Megasquirt and turbo (already have the megaquirt built)

I don't want to alter / hack the car up since it's pretty clean, so whatever I do will have to take that into consideration. In any case, I'm not in a rush to do anything right now and will probably just keep it tucked away in a garage for another year. My current love is a 2001 Audi S4 that I'm in the process of converting to Stage 3.
Check out this youtube video for details on that:

Time for the photo bomb!
