Cool car and build man! Just one thought though... insomuch as you're intending on auto-x for this car, wouldn't 600 HP put you into an undesirable powerband? Seems like around 400-ish to the wheels produces a nice curve supportive of tight track trials.

Otherwise, do continue!

well. I'd kinda like to be able to take it to the drag strip as well. I'm not entirely sure what I'll end up doing with it to he honest.

Replaced clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, and tranny mounts.

Next on the short term list.

Carrier bearing, drivers side rear wheel bearing. motor mounts, remove abs.

Realistic goals for next year:

It's been a long time since I've posted. I've made mistakes, asked a lot of questions (some stupid), learned a lot and have come a long way on my build. I have so many pictures and I'm just going to upload them all. My build isn't perfect, there are a lot of flaws and things I would've done different, but its my build and my lessons learned. Enjoy the pictures.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I have seen builds that are way better. There are some seriously skilled people out there. I'm not loaded. I have children and a wife in college. I work full time to provide for my family and on the side I build my car.

In the past I put together a turbo mustang and tuned it, but this project was a lot more involved and quite the learning experience. I've never built a wiring harness, let alone got a car to run on a stand alone ecu.

Some of these pictures are terrifying to look at. I first got the stock 7a to start on the vems unit. I tore out basically everything electrical with the intention to redo it myself and learn. Now I've swapped in an aan and I'm trying to build a semi legit harness.

I installed the rear main crank trigger, with a 6 puck southbend clutch and a Sachs 707 pressure plate.

I don't intend on daily driving this but I do intend on beating it up. It's my toy.

It pales in comparison to most of the builds on this and the project pad forum, but I could care less. The important part is I made an effort and havent quit.

I'll be uploading more later.

Keep going, you've made a ton of headway! Cash, motivation and time can all be difficult to corral together at once.

Which Holset is that, H1C? What fuel are you going to run? Regarding the AAN intake, are you going to tilt the rad and ditch the AC or have some other solution in the works?

I have two holsets. Hy35 and hx35. That picture is the hx35. I plan on getting it run on gasoline initially then switch to e85 later on, which will require fuel system upgrades of course.

I still haven't decided how I'm going to deal with cooling. I've never liked the idea of having the radiator in the engine bay. So I was looking into an air to water intercooler and using a front mount radiator, or I have a spare aan intake that I may take to a local shop to have them open it up and gut it and relocate the throttle body.

I bought a hobart 140 so I can weld my exhaust piping and many other things. I wish i could afford a tig welder, but i can't. Plus I havent welded since high school so I could use the practice.

I'm about to head outside and do some work on my engine harness, and put together the lines for my oil cooler. I'm super close to being able to start this thing I hope. I do have a fear that I pushed the rear main crank trigger on too far, but I used my multimeter and turned it over by hand to be sure each tooth was being read and every tooth seemed to read. So I guess I'll see when I get vems hooked up and check trigger log.

Oh. Current injectors are Siemens 630cc injectors, but I imagine I'll be upgrading those as well.

There will be no ac. No abs. I plan on using an electric power steering pump. Mr2 possibly? I want the least amount of drag on the engine as possible. I'm trying to make the car as light as possible, so the interior is gone except the basic requirements. I'm keeping the dashboard in the car. My first main goal is to run mid 11 seconds in the quarter mile.

I have another 7a block I bought from Petar years ago that only had 90k on it. The cylinder walls should be good to stay at factory bore size. So the next step is to use the je pistons I bought with some forged rods to reach my goal.

I also have an O1E transmission that will be getting installed after I break the stock coupe tranny.

I can see your updates on MG from my computer just fine. Glad to see the updates too. Was this the first time you've done a stand alone EMS? I'd like to learn how to do that someday. Is starting on the NA 7A a good way to learn the basics before you start to introduce boost?

When I had my mustang I was able to use a moates quarterhorse which is basically an expansion to the stock ecu. I read greg banish's advanced tuning engine management book and tuned my mustang.

I have never used a stand alone unit up until now. I used the 7a as my Guinea pig. I learned how all of the sensors worked, and how to wire them. I wanted to be sure I could get the stand alone to work before I went full in on my swap. I was able to get the car running enough to pull it out of my garage and turn it around for the engine swap. I didnt build a harness really, I chopped up the OEM harness to make it work. Now I'm building my first harness and it's far from perfect but it is far better than the first time around, and the next harness will be that much better.

As far as tuning goes whether its naturally aspirated or boosted. You'll still start out at the same place. You need to calibrate everything and get a solid tune before you introduce boost. My mustang used a blow thru maf setup, but my vems setup is speed density. It still all boils down to afr, Intake temps exhaust temps etc.

I'm no expert at tuning, I know just enough to be dangerous. Thankfully a good friend of mine has tuned a ton of cars and has a pretty good reputation around my area, so he'll be helping me out. I've never tuned e85 either so I'll be relying on him when I switch to ethanol.

Nice progress, keep up the great work, what fittings did you use to connect to the fuel tank (Supply and return)?

14mm Inverted Flare to -6AN from 034 motorsport. 034 discontinued them though. Pegasus auto racing might carry them.
