Hi all,
I have required a free donated audi V8 engine to fit in a project R33 skyline.

A bit of history on the engine:
It is still fitted to a crashed audi, car is badly damaged, may have been rolled, there is very little straight panels left, car is pretty much intact, as it was purchased from a scrap yard more than 25yrs ago. They had removed the ignition lock and barrel to ensure car would not be fixed and only used for parts.
A gentleman neighbour bought the car as engine was to be fitted to 3 series BMW, but this did not proceed as engine was too wide! He had removed rad, oil cooler, and aircon fin unit.
Now with car sitting with 50k miles on engine, but has not been started for 25+ years.
My mission is to get engine started or turning in audi before removing.
I will supply photos of wiring mess, maybe some one can help!

R33 shell history,
stripped approx 15 yrs ago to build a drift car, then fell though, and shell was stored inside. Real good condition except some surface rust.

The mission, standard nissan front subframe, nissan rear subframe, nissan brakes, maybe nissan diff, or audi if i can make it fit.
Audi 3.6 V8 engine, volvo gearbox,
Trying to keep costs to a minimum but to make car look good and be reliable.

What i know about the audi so far: right hand drive
It is a 3.6 V8 automatic, 50k miles, no ignition, photo to be supplied, car is pretty much complete but damaged. There are two ecu units above fuse box, which one is engine, which is gearbox? I am getting dash light up with crossing wires and a few relays clicking, not much else.
Gear selector is in P park, brakes pedal switches removed from pedal to mimic pedal being pressed, calipers where removed to allow car to be pushed freely

Wiring for ignition is as follows, 2x reds and 2x black dash lights up. Red&black and 2x black&yellow sends power to relays.

Working on audi today. Got lights on dash.

Found this? Something is missing? Could it be a relay?


2x Red&blue wires, 3xbrown, 1xgreen&grey.

Audi didn't do anything different 5spd to auto on the ECM, so it doesn't matter, it's all Bosch Motronic (there is one really good chip available that bumped the PT from 250hp to 280-ish). The only difference was in a relay, or rather the lack thereof, on a 5spd car. On an automatic, there was a relay for the P-N safety relay. On the 5spd cars, there was a jumper.

Also, brown in ground in an Audi. I think there were PT/ABH wiring diagrams online. I possibly have them saved on my old computer, it'll take me a bit to dig them out.

What would affect car not turning. I will test starter manually first.

I would really appreciate this, I cannot find audi V8 pt 3.6 wiring diagram.

After some cleaning of all fuses, relays, and spades i have managed to get dash working with digital mpg info etc, also big OK displayed. Engine will turn over! Very happy about this! I cleaned fuel pump relay 10. Tested voltage at pump it drops from 12 to 10v, either fuel tank is empty (as per digital dash display).
Owner did report seized fuel pump! Would it be workable to setup a external pump and temporary fuel tank, jyst to fire the engine? Yeh if there is a chance of firing it back to life! Thats the next goal.
Hopefully if i get hold of a wiring diageam i can then start to eliminate alot of wiring.

Plan is to run audi dash clocks, engine ecu, and maybe diff! Is it electronic and does it lock!
Really high spec car, pity it is so bent and unfixable! It will be parted out soon.

Interesting choice for an engine. Seems like there are so many much more well supported and powerful engines in the Nissan family than a PT V8, but interested to see how this build goes.

Yeh, more powerful & expensive.
Think this 3.6 v8 is 240bhp, higher torque.
Nissan rb25 is 6cyl turbo, 245bhp and starts at 2k for blank engine.

V8 audi 3.6 pt engine was donated! Yeh you wont be the only one whos interested! Im friggin steering this boat!

Great, very much appreciated. Will be a great help weeding out the non essential wiring for non essential equipment, wont need heated electronic seats, air con, climate control, electric windows, radio, heaters, etc.

All this stuff will be obsolete, if anyones looking!

Have had to run an external pump. As internal pump is seized. And fuel lines are squashed and broken.
Im getting a pulse at the injectors, the ecu is 12v on three pins, the external pump I'm using is about 3bar. Is it enough, I'm getting a return of petrol.
Spark plugs are dry? No fuel through injectors.
Strong spark, though?
I did disconnect a pump like gadget beside battery, it momentarily stopped the starter, what is it?

Engine is attempting to start on easy start spray,
I have struggled to get to these connectors behind engine, above bell housing! One must be exhaust co2 sensor.


Which consists of a two pin plug and a single pin, see photo.
What are the other 2 for? These are three pins, there are two of them?

Other injectors will fit the PT and ABH, I used to know off the top of my head. I think even the ABH injectors are larger than the stock PT units, since the ABH is a 4.2L vs 3.6L. You can also find 5spd PT cams (intake only IIRC, I'd have to go look and see what I have in a box in the basement as I have a pair), and drop those in. They are more aggressive than the automatic PT cams, believe it or not.

Fitted GM C20 xe vauxhall redtop, as these are a modded upgrade to vw 1.8 16v engines back in the day.
Engine has started, so thats a big step.
Next is to remove all non related wiring, there is a hell of alot!
Plan is to run audi clocks in project car, long with ecu.
Ok, been searching and is there a thread or example where anyone has actually succeeded in running standard ecu, with any manual box?
This audi is a 3.6 pt auto.
Also can anyone tell me what this is?

You will need to jump the starter lock-out relay. BTDT when I swapped from 4HP24 to 016 transmission on my old '90 V8q.

I had the car started, and then began to remove a ton of wiring, my plan was to keep ecu engine loom and bare basics including dash and auto mode selector switch, and dash info switch on wiper stalk.

Still have dash lights, but have lost starter, wont even engage starter.

Now, where is this 'starter lockup relay', i presume its the one clicking at me.
Note, ive no ignition key, jumping wires! Great fun!

If all else fails, can I power this ecu, in the transplant car, nissan.

Thanks all, for your help so far, im a complete novice when it comes to Audis.
Its been and huge learning curve, everything is bolted on three times, glued, screwed, and cable tied.
They must be an nightmare to maintain and repair.
Ive removed 2 buckets of wiring loom, and plenty of useful parts, will photograph em soon.
I feel bad about breaking a homologated car, but! It is bent beyond repair!
Its a strange car, rear window weights nothing, fibreglass spare wheel well, everything else so heavy! Why!
