well, i did some searching and not much was clear, you really have to search around to get the info you want.
So lets create a master

what are the differences between the springs between the b3/b4 cars? are they interchangeable?

The struts between them?

How about the strut assembly?

control arms?

Fwd vs quattro pieces?

here is what i know and suppose.

Front Assemblies are physically same except that they use M14 bolts instead of M12, and perhaps swaybar links

Springs are a different rate, but don't know spring rates. but could be interchanged, might effect ride height.

Control arms are interchangeable, however the ball joints are not the same.

fwd and quattro are the same in the front.

B4 is a V6 and B3 is a 4 or 5 cylinder so springs are different. B3 rear is similar to B2 cars, and B4 rear is similar to B5 cars..

Why do people keep saying that the B4q uses a B5q style suspension? B4q is obviously older than the B5q, therefore the B5q uses a B4q rear suspension (they almost entirely interchange from what I remember).
Any which way you say it is true. If A=B then B=A regardless of their order in the alphabet.

i found a set of b3 fwd springs and was thinking about slapping them on my cq and see what happens.

if anyone has tried that lemmie know.

Ok here's something I've been wondering along the same lines...
Are 2 bolt balljoint B3 front struts the same as the 3 bolt ball joint struts? As in you could use early 2 bolt balljoint struts and spindles, with 3 bolt ball joints and arms? And the other way round?

I've got an early '90 coupe quattro with stamped control arms.
Reading through this thread I get the impression that I can wonder out to my local pick and pay
and pull forged control arms off the '95 90 or cabrio and they will fit on my CQ.
I recognize that I will need to use the three bolt ball joints.

Yes, they will fit all the way down to the ball joints. You may need the sway bar as well. Depends on if you links go to the control arms, or to the struts.

The front end of my car has stamped arms with three bolt ball joints the sway bar attaches to the control arms.
Will the forged arms from a b4 have sway bar monts?

Back end has two bolt ball joints and on stamped arms and no sway bar.
