I'm trying to get the plastic gear off dr. Mike's distributor and I can not get this stupid pin to budge. Seems pretty obvious which way it comes out, I just don't want to hit it much harder for fear of breaking it. Any suggestions?
U have a pic of that? I get a bunch of dizzy rattle... I as well have a steel or brass gear.paradox11235 said:and we used a $0.29 spring pin to re-secure it. Less distributor rattle now,
There is no seal on the shaft. The only seal is an o-ring at the base of the dizzy that seals it to the head.VWAudi4Life said:Good info here! Don't mean to thread jack, but does anyone know where to get new distributor seals? Mine seems to be leaking oil through the shaft.
Hmmm.. Any thoughts on why my hall sensor and lowest portion of the dizzy cap's inside always have oil on them?yodasfro said:There is no seal on the shaft. What? How/why are you reusing a pin that the ends need to be ground off to remove the pin itself?? Thus making the pin not long enough to hold the gear in place any longer. A new roll pin from a hardware store is less than $1. And further more replacing just the roll pin isn't make distributor gear rattle go away.my2000apb said:ive swapped a few and the pin has been reusable each time, take your time and don't mash it up. a bit of pre-soaking will make it a bit easier

I read what you wrote twice, it was a longtime ago, I tapped it out, new gear and tapped it in, im of no other help other than it was waaaay easier to do than what I read aboveyodasfro said:What?
