thanks ken.

Sooooo, all those that have been waiting for a post with progress on this car, well... I eventually did something worthy of posting.

since the trip down to vegas for the GTG I had been wanting to get the vems that almost went into my car while down there. But, I had the same problem that hybrid hatch had on his car when installing it on his car at first. (which kept him from bringing it :( )

the problem is that when you use the 7A flywheel, reference pin doesn't show up after about 2K. so the solution was discussed on his thread and I mentioned using a piece of square stock and drill a hole in it, weld the tip. Id like to say It was my idea, and maybe it was, but it was the most logical solution to the problem. Im sure thats the solution they would have come up with whether I was involved or not.

whats funny is that before I read his post I did this.

after getting this done, I saw his posting and laughed at the similarity's. but like I said, its the most logical solution.
so after doing so, I installed the vems and the 60lb injectors I got as well. had a small issue with the wbo2 wiring what we installed in vegas but was figured out very quickly. turns out one of the pins in the connector pushed back out.

so after making short work of that issue I took it for a burn and found that it has dett at higher boost even though marc says it has plenty of fuel. He mentioned that its possible that my fw mark could poss be off. So either tomorrow or after Im done with my work week, Ill double check the long skinny screwdriver in the plug hole trick and see if im advanced.

Once I have figured out the Dett issue, I will be pulling the front end off the car again and redoing a bunch of stuff that have been nagging at me in my mind. I also have a vibration that I need to get a fix on so if its not a minor problem, it looks like I may be pulling the motor and dissassembling it and having it balanced. the good; it will be balanced and I will get a set of rods for it while its apart. the bad; its going to cost a grip of money Id rather not spend feeling like I wasted it. but, it is what it is right? My car is my "Precious" and she is worth it.

thanks for readin

So what is the actual problem, all these CQ and 90q running out there and all are fine above 2K rpm (including my own 4kq).
Is it the Motronic?

Thanks

I believe the statement was made is reference to running the 7A flywheel/reference pin while using a VEMS engine management ECU.

the motronic runs the car just fine martin. it does a great job of doing so and has been for 20 years. the MTM software worked great for what it was. but compared to the vems, which is programmable, its antiquated and limited. the possibilities with the vems are endless. the mere fact that its plug and play makes it fantastic.
If I were to replace the injectors, the motronic could not run the car right. it had the stock injectors running at 100 percent DC. It needed bigger injectors in a bad way.

everyone who has replaced their stock ecu knows the benefits of having the endless posibillities of a standalone. the motronic was old school through hole tech. vems is surface mount and up to date tech. much faster processor with communication that is lightning fast.

I like it Dave. as soon as I figure out the dett issue, I will feel alot better about mashing the throttle and not worring about the engine destroying itself.

so here I am brousing through the forum while at work and my project thread pops up.

yea, I believe it may be mostly handled by now. I dont get to drive the car as much lately since I dont want to drive it in the snow and road salt. not to mention god forbid it get hit by another retard that cant drive in bad conditions. the last tank of gas I had was the govt idea of a cleaner emissions fuel. they call it oxygenated fuel. just has up to 10% ethanol. not good for trying to tune for just plain 91oct. last weekend I filled up at another station I know of that doesnt have the "oxyfuel" and tiried a few full throttle pulls. after the car was warmed up completely I saw it was fueling what marc said it should. I plan on giving it another go in the next few days to see if it is corrected. Im not entirely convinced to be honest.

while I have the motor out to get balanced I had planned on sending the ecu back to marc to have him throw it in one of his cars to see if he could recreate the problem. Im not uber worried or all that impatient honestly since I dont drive the car in the winter anyway. I was hoping to get the motor done and a new clutch, new double sized atw innercooler built, tank relocated, different radiator installed, new aluminum front crossmember fabricated with reengineered snub mount, revamped suspension, volvo hybrid turbo to name a few things. but I have been a little short of funds anyway so it gets pushed until I feel comfortable I can do it financially.

I hope it turns out to be a fault with the computer as I dont understand how it could have been so difficult to tune this thing since marc has tuned so many others with this spec. I dont know, Ill cross my fingers. meanwhile Ill try to sell off some of my spare parts to try to fund this endevor. anyone want to buy an mtm chipped ecu and an 01e among other parts? :p

What kind of 01e and condition/etc? I could possibly be tempted. Beautiful car...I really need to look through your project thread now. :)

Those seats you installed look fantastic! I went the Volvo hybrid route, but i did some modifications to it. If it comes back to me spec'd out like i wanted, i will include it in the write up and i will let you, Dave and Bimmerboy know who did this and for how much. Right now it seems unrealistic what this guy is doing, for so little money. I love your car, it really is one of the nicest i have seen, but i think thats the Utah standard for coupes now a days. Hope you get it sorted in a decent amount of time, but it sounds like with the rebuild coming and another turbo installed, this could be going north of 400hp at the crank.

Back to those seats, were did you get them from? I want to replace mine in the wagon (i have to in order to meet spec for the 200mph run) and those actually look DD comfortable. Over 800$?

thank you sir. Thank you for noticing. the seats cost just over a G, but with their brackets. if I were to do it again, I would just buy the sliders and make the rest. the seat brackets were too simple to have paid what they cost me. that would save you a small chunk. and they are very nice for DD. A very nice and wise investment I might add.

North of 400 may be a bit too generous. actually Im going for somewhere between 3 and 350 at the wheels. Im not greedy and I love the fact that its a KKK turbo that is just as reliable as the k24 or 6. just better. mine is a carpet cruiser that sometimes sees a few Autox's. it depends on the surface. I do have the 90sptQ for the serious days kick'n the cones around. It is a former first place H-stock national pro solo car. but its time has come to shtcan the v6 fo a 4.2

as far as standard for Utah, dont know. although we have a nice collection in the maffia here and vegas, Ive seen some real winners if you know what I mean. I believe the Mafia just takes extra special pride in our cars. we must keep up appearances mustn't we? I have just had my car a very long time.

Fantastic build, makes me happy to have my coupe for when i can actually get around to all the things i'd like to do to it. Also makes me more excited for repainting, the nice shiny black sure is sexy... Also like the blacked out headlight valences.

Do you feel that the B490 is a better chassis/suspension for performance or just the way things ended up?

yes actually, it is as it has the B5 rear suspension. and like I said, it did win a national frist place trophy. the few years I have flung it around the cones it did seem to handle better than the CQ. I got a first placer to ease my mind. it just needs more oooomph. that V6 isnt totally gutless by any means, but it runs out in the top end, and that just grinds my gears

I dont want to beat on the CQ if I dont have to.
