Hank, it was awesome meeting you, I loved your car! I really like that GT3017 turbo, man did that thing like to make boost! I bet at 30 psi and some 104 octane that thing would be stupid fast. I really wish I could have driven, but I had the mental capacity of a fruit fly, lucky for me the part that makes me giggle when going around a turn sideways at 40mph was still working :-D Man, I really want to quiet my car down now, I've been trying to unlock all the potential by having next to 0 back pressure, but I think the larger hot side turbine has been the key all along. After seeing how hard your car pulls with a quiet 2.5" exhaust, there's hope!

BTW,
"that was just like high school"
LOL!

It was good meeting you Jim, i always wanted to meet who i was stealing my motor from.. Im glad you enjoyed the car, and im stoked that we didn't go to jail 8) It was cool Rippin you around McCarren Airport all hung out there. Yea, im stoked that you even thought my car was "close" to what your 90tq is. Thats a huge complement.

That 034 gt3071R does rip huh!!! Full boost( I was boosting up to 28 the night before) by 3600'sh rpm, and all at once.. I am stoked i spent the extra money on the ball bearings.

Anywho, hope you get your car on a big turbo again soon, you sounded like you were having withdrawls, or maybe that was just from the festivities the night before. :D I may post a vid tomarrow of the car in like 3rd to get the turbo noice, its a sweet noice with virtually a stock exhaust!!! Maybe i'll rip through that tunnel..

Anywho, glad you could recoupe for an hour and come rip around. Glad the local law was slow to the scene, and your a fast bailer out of the car!!

Hank

:wtf:

Yep, You will have to meet up with somebody.. However, that person isn't me. I am going to be goign to Brazil for a while, so my uncle STIrose(David) will be taking the URQ under his loving arms. He is a Dentist in Las Vegas, but he lives in Park City.. So Audilard, and you SLC guys, bug him to beat the URQ around.

Dave, Im sure you can get him to bring the car down for Sema for sure.

I'll try to chime in from Brazil when i can...

so keep it real Ya'll 8)

Hank

Brazil?

How long? For what reason?

haha, indeed, im sure you two can work out a trade... :bump:
The problem that we have here is that Hank's dad (that would be me) has posession of the car, the keys and shavedquattro's password. (I may have to join MG as a member some day.) One other thing, stirose is my younger brother and age has it's perks.
By the way Jim, even if you haven't spent the night out in Las
Vegas, the car still rips pretty hard. Your seat of the pants feel good was still working.

Hummmm Let me see....Yes... Ladies and gentlemen hank has left the building....mmm...The country actually. So lets meet in vegas BYOC bring your own cones. Jim, you wanted to see what 30psi was like right? Eldorado dry lake bed is loads of fun to lay out a course on and practice 80+ mph full lock corners etc...

yea, hanks dad has the car and keys but the title and plates are in my name....which reminds me I keep getting these nasty calls home from security at Mandalay Bay. You know anything about that Jim??

Ok...so the gigs up. Left with the car thursday to bring it to its new home and cold air of utah but it decided to against and died in st george...2 hours north. damn hank: he used up all but the last 120 miles. You would think it would have come apart when hank and I were doing 30psi rips down I-15 just to see faces on the kids in the "hot" GTI....Or maybe those circles in the parking lot Jim?? But no, it makes some awful noise coming off the freeway after a nice 2 hour cruise. The autopsy results will follow but my guess at this point is dropped a valve secondary to failed retainer and/or backfire->slipping timing belt etc etc...There were some issues with the timing wheel, if fact that was one of the little loose ends I was going to address when I got it home. Anyway got it started after readjusing the hall sensor but it was blowing fuel into the crankcase and tons of oil out the exhaust along with what sounded like maybe a busted valve rattleing around. Not good. So maybe it is time to find all the 20 valve parts.....

I think the turbo is fine just had some oil blown through it for a short time. Full James bond smoke-screen sort of thing.
Ouch, that's not good. So the car is stuck in St. George? Hope you at least played a couple rounds of golf while there.

The car is back in Vegas. I ended up spending the better part of my weekend driving getting rescued then pulling a flatbed back and forth....The car is still on the trailer. But we'll get it going again, really is a fun car with lots of potential. Really handled well and is not really sorted to speak of. In fact surprised me that it rode better then my STi and given a little time I think it would handle as well or better. Needs quicker steering though. Darin, I looked back through your project page (I have quite a bit of catching up to do): You have time for golf? :)

Not really, but I go anyways. I spent most of my holiday weekend taking out the huge birm of dirt in my front yard. I've got so many house projects, soccer games, kids to take care of, etc. that the car just looks at me evertime I go out in the garage. I've got to get it running good so I can enjoy it. But, I always find a way to hit the links! :-D

I can relate: wives and kids just don't understand do they? Then again you must have good kids cause I have good kids and I still have no patients left for golf
