I'm moving to Ohio as soon as the BiTurbo V8q project is road worthy. And it occured to me that it would be nice to meet a few of you from this general area before I leave. So here is the idea.

I was thinking of firing up the grill outside the shop on a saturday or sunday in early may. get some pics of our cars. maybe a short cruise through the countryside of Gates CO NC...or even a beach trip to the Outer Banks NC if anyone is up for it.

I know there are a few of us if not so many as other areas.

Anyone up for it?

Driving directions...............

From Richmond Area......

I-295 Exit 3A: US 460 East. Follow to Suffolk.

As you approach Suffolk there will be a pair of truckstops (one on each side) and a Holiday Inn on the left side. Make the left turn onto the Bypass immediately after the Holiday Inn. DO NOT GO UNDER THE OVERPASS

Follow bypass to 45mph zone, take right ramp to new bypass Edenton NC/Rt 13 DO NOT GO THROUGH STOPLIGHT/UNDER OVERPASS

At end of new bypass merge right onto Rt13/32 South.
Get in Left lane.
Turn left onto Rt 32 Carolina Road. Stay on Carolina road through the big sweeping left curve (Its the first left curve on the road)
After exiting curve turn left at house with White picket fence. (Babbtown Rd.)
Stay on Babbtown to stop sign (aprox 1.5 miles) turn right onto White Marsh Rd.
Cross concrete bridge, second house on the right..BIG GARAGE.

From Route 13 (DE/MD)

Cross Cheasepeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

Stay straight on Rt 13/Northhampton Blvd through town to I-64 East.

Take the I-264west/Downtown Norfolk exit.

Go through the Downtown Tunnel into Portsmouth

When 264 becomes 2 lanes just pick a lane and stay in it, do not change lanes at the interchange and you will end up on US460w/US58w/US13s.

On US460w get in the right lane and stay there. At the Downtown Suffolk exit the right lane is exit only and takes you directly to the first stoplight.

At the first light turn Left onto East Washington St.

Follow East Washington to 3rd light, turn left onto Factory Street.

Factory Street becomes Hosier Road at end of Peanut factory property.

Stay on Hosier Rd until you begin to suspect you are about to live a scene from Deliverance.... at 4 way stop turn right onto White Marsh Rd. Cross concrete bridge, second house on right.

From NC.....

I-95 North to Exit 11A, Rt 58 East.

Follow Rt 58 past Holland.

~4.5 miles after passing Holland you will see a White sign on the right with the word Progressive on it. (start looking for it after you pass the "Pure" gas station.)

At the Progressive sign turn right onto Lummis Rd.

Make 1st left onto Copeland road. follow Copeland ~ 6 miles to Rt 32/Carolina Rd. Turn Right onto Carolina Rd.

Go through curve, look for house with white picket fence, turn left on Babbtown Rd. Go to Stop sign and turn right onto White Marsh Rd.

Cross concrete bridge, second house on the right.

The house belongs to Bruce. He decided to get into another line of work and I dont blame him, what he's thinking about is a great idea. Which means I need to find another shop... or start my own...you can guess which I choose. :-D

So... I like VA and all but honestly I feel like being here is a bad location for what I like doing. The taxes suck, the state and city governments are way beyond intrusive, and I'm close to almost nobody..and zero road courses as well.

I grew up in central Ohio and all my family is there, including my sons. It's fairly centrally located, the taxes are not nearly as bad, and the county governments tend not to bother small shops as long as they dont become a major eyesore.

The Mid Ohio track is only 1.5 hours from my hometown, Indy is only 3 hours... etc etc etc.

Then there is the fact that I do enjoy building cars other than Audi's. Opening my own shop will allow me to take on a project that interests me regardless of make or model. I dont plan on anything bigger than what I feel comfortable with and puts $ in the bank, clothes on my back...and sweet cars in my garage.

So has anyone else figured out that Mid May is Mothers day weekend?? If no one minds going to Hell then the 13/14th would be nice. But if others mind maybe the 20th/21st would be better?

& others on the audifans V8 list are talking about what weekend would be best as well.

I'm out... distance and remembered tham my Mom turns 80  may 25th... big party already planned.

Funny how I forget things like that when itching to do a car-related road trip!

When do you plan on moving Kieth?

Hey All,
It's been nearly 2 years since I posted to Motorgeek (sounds like a confession) -- but zero to three babies in 2 years will put a damper on more than one or two things... but if KT's heading out to the great(?) state of Ohio, I'd love to partake in any send-off shenanigans.

Firstly, the weekend of 5/20 is much preferred for various reasons. Secondly, I'm 30 seconds off the first I-95 exit in Delaware (Rt. 3 / Marsh Rd.). So if there's a V8 convoy truckin' SB, I'd love to jump in. However, I'd recommend 495 to go around Wilmington -- in which case please keep in touch w/ me on when the group will be flying by, and I'll be waiting at the PA/DE state line.

Is there a list of who's bringing what (i.e. potato salad, etc.)??

I'm looking at the 6th and 7th as the best days for me. I'm hoping to talk Bruce into letting us use the backyard for camping and bonfire duties, just in case anyone is interested in staying overnight...perhaps if some attendees decide this is a good time to pick through the parts yard, as well as the parts containers for whatever parts ya need.

A possible fall back would be Bob B.'s place up around Richmond.

However it works out we are looking at a strong possibility of having 4! V8 5spds attending, three actual 91's, two of those with 4.2 swaps, and the 93' that was my first 5 spd swap into a 4.2 car.

Then there is a possibility of getting The Fighter Factory to give a tour... Rare Warbirds and Audi at the Suffolk Airport anyone? Spitfire... Corsair.... V1 Buzzbomb.... a pair of 30's vintage Russian fighters... and many more :-D

5/6 - 5/7 could work for me as well (the sooner the better i always say). A campout would be cool, 'specially since the nearest hotel to the shoppe is about 3 tankfulls away... i hope Bruce goes for the on-site deal. Too bad the road out front isn't wide enough for heads-up 1/8 mile times...!

<cluuuutch for saaaale.... cluuuuutch for saaaaaale>
