its an audi v10....oil filter is in wrong spot to be in a lambo....well i guess i could be if its like a new motor and they since redesigned the '04 motor...

i spy r8 motor

Andrew... The current R8 production models... like the one that engine you posted a pic of... use a V8 engine. The engine in the pics above... has two extra cylinders V10 vs V8. The oil filter is in the correct place when compared to the engine in the link I posted.

sorry for thread jack...

i know on the 2004/5/6/7 v10 lambo motor, the oil filter housing is farther back and set down between the V

like so from lamboweb.com

Looks like the same place on this one... rear of engine (I'm looking t the valve cover/cam chain cover junction) in the valley of the engine just shifted towards the side of cylinder bank 2.

Are we discussing the same pics?

Do you mean that the filter is more submerged into the block? It looks to be as I compare the pics.

I did some catalog digging....On the Audi side of things... the oil filter and oil filter housing / adapter 079-115-401-M (part bolted to block & extending into the block)... is shared between the 5.2 V10 FSI and the 4.2 V8 FSI. So the C6 S6, R8 4.2, B7 RS4 cabriolet... all have their filter in the same location. The only oddball car seems to be the RS4 sedan/wagon... those get the L suffix, I'm wondering why.

Still I doubt the engine is from an Audi R8... as the only production R8 models at this time are V8... there are V10 R8 cars but they are mules or test production etc as far as I know. It would seem unlikely that somebody has snatched an engine from such a mule or pre produciton model, blocked off the FSI rail pump openings as shown... blocked off the injector holes in the cylinder head and fitted the engine with what we see above.

Do all Lamborghini models share the same oil filter housing or do some maybe use the more Audi looking one?

On 2nd thought... there are those R8 customer LeMans race cars which iirc are to be V10 powered, but I'd expect those to be FSI. Which still leaves us at... what is this engine from?

Andrew.... I think we are both wrong... Look at the C6 S6 for valve covers... I also think I see where the FSI injectors would or could be on the cylinder heads above and they look to be blocked off by plates.

The S8 also shares the same valve covers.

I wonder what they did for pistons?... Don't FSI pistons have a provision for increasing swirl or something to that effect meant to work in conjunction with the flaps in the intake runners?

Sorry for the threadjack.

I am pretending the whole V10 conversation is not happening as it will only give me Ideas :bashtard:

So it has now been 9 months approximately since the V8 had any real progress :(

The good news is that I just finished sealing the expansion joints in the floor of the garage, they need 5 days to cure before I can put down the epoxy that is here now, so with any luck next weekend the Epoxy gets done, then the following weekend I will go to my shop in maine and prep the Audi to move (Peter I am finally gonna have to come take you up on the loan of that control arm over the next week or so). Which means, the move is probably gonna happen over Christmas, which will be a good present to me from me :) (If a little late....)

Still to do:

Sand 1st coat of spackle in the store room, put on second coat.. Sand 2nd coat of spackle in stairwell and put on final coat. Thats my day tomorrow.

Build the doors for the attic access so the heat doesn't go straight out there.

Wire up all the plug sockets, and a few other last bits.

Prime and paint the store room and stairwell.

Sand the floor (Yuk)

Steam clean and pressure wash the floor

Acid wash the floor.

Crank up the heat so the floor dries out for next weekend.

Epoxy the floor :)

Trim the place out (Skirting, door surrounds etc...... etc.....)

Move.

Then you can start working on your Audi equity again :? :bump:

I am looking forward to getting back to working on the V8 too...... sometime.

For now, "One step forward, 2 steps back" literally!

(Hey I think Picassa changed how their website works so I can now do a right click 'copy image location' instead of using their stupid weblink feature that has been pissing me off for several years now , cool)

This really pissed me off!

I was already a bit pissed off because my plan of painting the floor, giving it 10 days to cure, prepping the shop and audi to move over the Christmas weekend and moving it, was all killed by the ice storm power failure. So now I am delayed a few weeks :(

Sunday when the power came back on I decided to get right back into the list of tasks to finish the shop to make the move. First on the list was to make the insulated attic doors. These needed to be done so that I can heat the place up to get the slab warm so that it does not outgas when I epoxy it, causing bubbles. Up until now the heat I put in the place with the fab new heater goes out through the hole to the attic.

So I built the doors, with 4" of foam inside....

When lifting the first one up the ladder, I got it in place, then when aligning it the support block I was using came off, as I was lazy when I put it on and did a crap job......Boom, the door fell, bouncing off the wall making a nice hole in the fresh new wall and paint. This was not too bad as the door survived fine and the patch in the wall is easy.

So I carry it back up, set it in place, get in the attic and start aligning it to screw the hinges on, at which point the board I put down to stand on slips off the edge of the joist when I stand on it and my foot goes straight through the brand new ceiling! I swore a lot because i was an idiot again....damn it ! Thankfully I didn't go through the ceiling and end up downstairs. The repair is going to suck, not because its hard, but because I am an idiot for causing the damage in the first place.

On the plus side, I am going to Maine for Christmas Day, and on Boxing Day (That's Dec 26th to you heathens who don't know) The Audi is gonna get worked on for the first time in 8+ months!

It is getting the front pass suspension put back on so I can put it on all 4's (Big 300+ series all 4's) for the first time in exactly a year! (I rolled the V8 into the shop on Dec 26th last year I think, and if not is was damned close to that!!!!! (Man that seems soooo long ago) It will also get some kind of hack together S6 steering column, and some rear struts of some kind so it is ready to put on the trailer and move in a few weeks when I finally get the floor done in my new shop.

Thats it for now, just thought I would share as I cant be bothered to go in the garage and work tonight as I just got home from a big day at work.
