so last night i was up at dan's house and Cory (frostyflax) came up to get some trim pieces. we were talking cars and he mentioned his coupe being Winflower yellow, neither I nor dan had ever heard of Winflower yellow before and thought he must have been talking about Ginster yellow.

So i looked on 20v.org and they list Winflower yellow on their site, and no mention of Ginster yellow anywhere on their site.

anyone? have i been wrong all this time? i've never owned either as mine have both started out silver, Dan just bought a Ginster yellow coupe but hasnt picked it up yet, and i've only ever seen yellow coupes referred to as Ginster...

Never heard of winflower yellow until i read this thread. Maybe one color is a solid yellow and the other is the same yellow that has a pearl midcoat? I remember Audi did that with the Nimbus grey on the first gen TT,the first year there was pearl in it and for some reason the year later the color stayed the same but they removed the pearl out of the base, thus making it the same color grey but not pearlecent.

I always thought winflower was the lighter yellow. Kind of like that horrible bugeye WRX yellow that just looked like it had faded. I wondered that about Ginster. Jim's 90 is ginster but in all the pics it doesn't look quite as yellow as my Mk3 Ginster GTI. I find that yellow is probably the most difficult color to photograph and reproduce accurately so it's hard to tell from pictures on the internet.

:stupid:

The coupe & 20v 90's like Jims are not the same color code as a MK3 GTI. If you don't believe me, try to match them and see what it looks like  .

That's what I thought. Is the Audi Ginster a lighter yellow? And the Mk3 yellow a little darker and more orange? I've never seen them side by side but that's what I've been guessing. Actually I don't think I've ever seen a CQ/90 ginster in person.

Ya, any Audi's I;ve seen look to be as you describe, even the A4, it looks lighter than the GTI. The B5 S4 looks closer to me to the GTI, but side by side I bet they are diferent still?

i can honestly say it's a completely different shade than the ginster vw's. the ginster's i've seen are like lambo yellow, as where the whinflower is more creamy light yellow (looks faded)

i've seen a total of 3 pictures of whinflower cars, 1 of which i own.

i've seen hundreds of ginster yellow cars and none of them have been as pale as a whinflower.

when dan and rj said it was ginster i was like "WHAAAT?", wayyy to different of a color.

and yeah i asked jim what color his car was and he didn't exactly respond, then again his isn't all one color. lol

Well, VWs used to come in the same ginster as 90s

I think they just switched it later for the mk3. Then I wouldn't be surprised if either brilliant yellow from B5s or the yellow new beetles came in were just ginster renamed.
Also, whinflower was apparently sometimes called "gorse" in various countries in Europe.
